Saints re-sign Young and Simoneau [MERGED] (1 Viewer)

Well lots of people were staying up to see what UFA we signed.......was it worth it? I wake up this morning and find out when we signed a MLB and DT......shame because it was the MLB we wanted gone and the DT most of us wanted back but only for vet minimum. [sarcasm on] Glad the FO was so agressive in landing guys early [/sarcasm off].

I am fine with Simoneau staying as long as its for depth.

:plus-un2: I figured that this might happened. Now if we could just draft another stud linebacker. Add some youth. Our defense is horrible, and I really think that 75% of our offseason acquisitions (draft and FA) should be devoted to the Defense.

I have to agree with many of you on this thread. Simoneau is insurance for Vilma, which is perhaps the smartest thing the FO has done yet. He came relatively cheap, has starting experience, and can back up any of the positions. We need the depth, and at the very least we could always cut him during camp if everything works out with Vilma, the draft, etc. After all, it's not like he's going to take up much of the cap anyway.

sounds like Simmons might move to be a backup OLB.

DT rotation is now the same as last year. Still need to try and get a young DT in the draft.

Onto the secondary next....

can we cut simmons?

With his salary next year I think its just a matter of time before we cut him.

It made much more sense to keep Simoneau as the backup for alot cheaper since neither player is really better then the other.

I like young, we need another two DTs , but since we haven't heard anything, we must be drafting one. Dorsey. I hope. Siminoooo is a mistate, draft a few.

Same offseason, different day. Signing a NFL caliber backup DT to a $4 million deal is horrible. Simoneau is horrible at any price. To recap, the Saints have traded for a MLB with a bum knee, over paid for a injured, backup DT. and re-signed the worst MLB in the NFL. Come on guys. Call it like it is. I love the Saints and want to think positive, but these moves are bad unless a miracle happens and Vilma can overcome a serious knee injury.

We wouldn't of signed him if he had a serious knee problem. And Young is not a backup DT. He is a very good pass rusher and a decent all around DT. Not everyone can be a probowler.

People forget that Young played very well early in the year because we understandably focused on how badly the team was playing. Then he got injured and then got seriously ill. The Simoneau signing has me more perplexed, though the "depth" aspect makes sense.

Young is always hurt and old. Why are we paying him 4 million a year?

Hes 30 years old and only missed one game 04-06. Last year he had a minor knee problem that was never able to heal correctly. It'll be a non issue after a full offseason.

Seriously, do any of you even watch Saints football? The guy had probowl numbers in 2006. Who else would you like to sign? Seriously....give me some names.

And 4 million a year for a starting DT is chump change.
