Texas, the new Florida (2 Viewers)

I would think that, at some point, HOA's would begin to negatively affect property values in their subdivisions. I know I would never purchase a home in a subdivision with an HOA. Selling a house in one of those neighborhoods seems like it would be a nightmare.

You may not like it and never want to be in one of those neighborhoods, but they absolutely do preserve and even enhance property values.

some people want to live in an area where you can park trucks and boats and RVs and old trailers in your hard. I don't. I may not like having to deal with them, but it's better in my mind than having someone move in who wants to part their service vehicles in the front yard.

Different strokes perhaps, but a person in my neighborhood who leaves a rusty landscape trailer in their front yard is going to more negatively affect property values than having to go to a meeting to get approval for a new seawall.

I forgot to look for HOA neighborhoods when buying my house but it'll definitely be part of the deal for my next one.

You have a garage but you wanna fill it full of sheet and park in the driveway and on the street. You blow. (The SR filter changed this from 'suck'. What's the difference between sucking and blowing? Hmmm.)

The people across the street moved the fence that's supposed to block off the BACK yard - so that it's flush with the FRONT of the house. What in the John Brown hell...

You wanna sit raggedy arse furniture on the curb the day AFTER bulk pickup has passed for the month? I'm going to report you.

How is that you had that infested looking sheet on the inside of your house anyway?

You wanna cut an entire hole in your fence so your dog can come and go? REPORTED!

Trying to sneak and use your house for an Airbnb (You have already been reported busta).

I'm not a tattler by nature. I swear I'm not. I sit and brainstorm ways to break rules.

But when it comes to keeping neighborhoods looking decent, I can't stand people who disregard those efforts and try to force their raggedy lifestyle on the rest of the street.

We’ve lived in neighborhoods with HOAs for over 20 years. For the most part, I have no issues with them. We play by the rules, which really aren’t that big of a deal in our current hood. Ours didn’t allow basketball goals for the homes withe driveways in the front. Me and a buddy protested it, got enough signatures, and the bylaws were changed to allow them as long as they don’t look broken or rundown. I have read horror stories about others, though where board members who have no life, will actually measure the length of grass and write citations.

Just curious...what is it about the Dallas/Ft Worth, Houston areas that y'all don't like? Is it the people? Policies? Atmosphere? The only experience I really have is just driving thru. When I lived in San Diego years ago, I loved it. Then I moved away for a few years and when I came back it was a Sheethole. Is this what happened in Tx? or has it always been that way?
As for Houston, the weather just sucks arse ... unrelenting hot and humid for a good six months, then transition to winter is rather abrupt. Not that the winters are particularly harsh, but after living there a bit more than a year, I can't remember a single "nice day" as in mostly blue sky and nice temps in the 60s-70s. Maybe a few decent days in March and October .. even then you will still get the humidity.

Of course you could say the same for most of the Deep South, except parts of Florida ...

Her argument only holds up if the people behind the anti-abortion stuff actually "care" about the unborn foetus.

They don't. It about controlling women.

Good on her to attempt it though.
They don't and the laws are inconsistent and will likely remain so. If a fetus at a certain gestational age is a person and legally protected ... should abortions at that stage be charged as murders? What about if a pregnant woman has a glass of wine ? Is that giving alcohol to a minor / child abuse ?

If I'm having sex with my pregnant wife am I committing incest and rape of a minor?

The whole thing is a preposterous nightmare.
