Texas, the new Florida (1 Viewer)

The article should've mentioned how the average age of Texas coal fired plants is 50 years old, and the average of natural gas powered plants, is 30 years old. The grid doesn't have enough power generation, meanwhile more businesses are moving here and more people are moving here, increasing the power needs. Those elderly power generating plants are having to run non-stop with little to no planned downtime for maintenance. This could potentially be a much larger problem as the summer progresses, as some of these plants would fail. This risk is highlighted in the Dallas paper today, but there's not much discussion on plans to minimize the risk. The only possible solution is that new plants need to be built, but still need to be planned and recommended by regulators.

I haven’t lived there n all the other 49, but I’d be hard pressed to disagree with that.
It’s weird when you really think about it
I don’t feel like I’ve ever lived in Louisiana, even though I’ve lived in New Orleans off and on for 30+ years
Same with NYC
but when I lived in Greensboro, I’m more inclined to say I lived in North Carolina (and not just bc the state name is more notable)
and certainly when I lived in Denton, it was Texas state identity that mattered most - way way more than anywhere else I’d lived or even visited

i couldn't live in nyc. aside from my frequent visits for work and forced visits to see my brother, i forking hate ny. easily the most overrated city in america. i'd take boston 99.9999999999999% for every reason over nyc. i have over a combined year worth of having been in that sheethole. fork. now i'm angrier.

all of that said, i absolutely loved greensboro. proctor and gamble has a plant out there i was doing a project with. absolutely loved the area. also did a lot of work in charlotte, loathed everything about it. greensboro s+++ tier, charlotte d---, not quite f, but forking close.

i didn't hate texas, but it wasn't a "omg, i regret moving" either. college station was a very relaxed place. things like crime etc. are very low, seems to be a good place to raise kids, the schools are well rated (or were, i wouldn't know now), and in general, just a good place to live. the downside is, no students, the most boring forking place ever, especially when school is out. *bam* half the population instantly on vacation.

my regret is not accepting an opportunity to work and live in portland, maine. it would be cold as balls, but i hate high humidity wayyyy more. the real estate prices though.. that was the turn off and i was making more than enough to afford it, but still. fork it is insane to purchase, lease, and more importantly rent.

i've in the baton rouge area since '08. first denham springs (blehhhhhhhhhhh) and the last six years downtown br. it isn't new orleans, and i love to talk sheet about it, especially the food, but i don't mind where i am. i'm in one of the small pockets of non-100% right neighbourhoods.

if i had the means, i'd totally move back to australia though. i'd whore myself out if a sugar momma, or possibly daddy, wants to move there and needs a marriage for citizenship, i get a paid move, etc., i'm not above this. *hint*

I've lived in the Greensboro area for the past 16 years. Such a wonderful place. I've had a few career bumps over this time and whenever we start considering where else we might want to move, we just figure out a way to make this area work. It's a great place to raise a family and is so affordable, etc...

Hate to say that in my 10 or so years living in NYC, I didn’t remember many clamoring for zeetes to join us
If your sugar mama had a sister who didn’t mind the wife and kids, I’d move back yesterday

I was ok with gboro (liked it more than didn’t), but it’s proximity to both mountains and the Triangle was great
- agreed Charlotte blew

It’s funny to think about, I was in grad school at UNCG but I’m not sure who if any I knew who were actually from gboro
And when I was there I was still technically living with my gf in Brooklyn - so my experience there was very blinkered (esp since I ran to the mountains every time I had a break that didn’t involve driving to NY)
I’ve always wanted to go back, but have never been able to

Interesting you say this. I have recently been contemplating moving. My boss mentioned that the California residency requirement for my team will sort of disappear once we hit our next milestone and we can live wherever. Made me think that maybe I'd like to go shack up in some other state.

When I went to Miami last month, I'm like "I kinda like it here. Could I actually live in Miami even though the rest of Florida is as stupid as it gets?" I dunno. It's really just the diversity and the incredible beaches. I'm not totally sold because of hurricanes and Floriduh dumbness. I like SD but it's always kinda chilly here, the ocean is really cold and it is seriously lacking diversity.

When I was back home in Houston over Christmas, I also thought "man, I love Houston. I'd love to move back here and be close to my family again. It's too bad it's in Texas"

Florida woman reminding us that Florida is still Florida...

Not sure if BobE is still floating around, so I'll just say it...

Sorry for partying.
