Another theory

Some cursing, but it makes a lot of sense...

except...

Not a bad theory, but if Axe was the spy, wouldn't Gideon already know about the two groups uniting anyway? This is this guy's main reasoning for why the Armorer isn't the spy (with which I agree), but then it seems also to cancel out Axe as well, because why wouldn't Gideon have gotten that same information from him? That he wouldn't have told Gideon all this but then tells him all that after Gideon spoke to Elia Kane is convenient timing for this theory, but makes no logical sense. If he hates Bo Katan so much, why wouldn't he have contacted Gideon immediately after losing control of his Mandalorian mercenary sect? It's not a bad theory, but it's got that rather big hole in the middle of it.

Also, if people need evidence, in every episode summary, they always refer to Din as "The Mandalorian", not as Din.

AND steered directly into the thing instead of trying to veer away. That was the moment that made no sense. It came across as a "deus ex machina" moment where Filoni and Favreau decided the Mandalorians needed to not have the boat for a quick escape. The one bad mark on the episode for me.

That bugged me a bit, but given the nature of the boat they maybe had limited options for alternate paths and perhaps figured they could get past it? Presumably not the first time it's happened if they've been there for while.

To be honest, I thought the 'Kane turning up the mindflayer on Dr Pershing' thing a few episodes back was more daft. Not sure if I missed something, but surely it would have been glaringly obvious that the reason Pershing had somehow been properly mindflayed instead of just 'refreshed' was that it got turned up to 11 and the obvious suspect would be the other ex-Imperial person left in the control room by herself?

On a different subject, I've been meaning to ask, I haven't watched any of the animated stuff, and I'm gathering I'm missing a fair bit of back story and references to it in this and the other live action shows. Not sure where to start with it though. I had a quick google and there seem to be a bunch of different answers. Any recommendations?

Yes, thought the same thing about the mind flayer. Anyone with half a brain would know she had done it to him and thus her cover is blown. Convenient Movie/TV thinking: if we don't see it, it didn't happen kind of thing. It was a bit of lazy writing, which definitely is an outlier for this series, but one almost expects it in the film genre.

Scorpius nailed it: Clone Wars and Rebels is "all" you need to watch to catch up. I say "all" because Clone Wars is seven seasons and Rebels is four (iirc). You'll understand basically all the references if you watch those.

However, in the last Mandalorian episode, they introduced some characters that come from Timothy Zahn's two trilogies about Thrawn (the Heir to the Empire trilogy and the Star Wars: Thrawn trilogy). I don't know how much reading those will be necessary, though, since the events in those books were declared "non-canonical" by the Disney hierarchy when they took over the Star Wars franchise. Perhaps some of the things in the Star Wars: Thrawn trilogy will take place on screen, but knowing about them beforehand won't really matter. I'm still hoping for a cinematic re-telling of the Heir to the Empire trilogy. They can change what's necessary to make it match "canon," but bring it on!

When you watch Clone Wars, be sure to watch it in the "official" order: https://www.starwars.com/news/were-rewatching-star-wars-the-clone-wars. Otherwise, you'll get lost... they aired the episodes in a non-chronological way for some reason, so watching them in order of air date would be less than ideal.

With Rebels, I think you are safe to watch it all the way through in order, after Clone Wars.

And when you are finished with all of those, you should watch the Bad Batch.

If all those seasons of Clone Wars are too much content, there are 9 fan edit "movies" made from Clone Wars episodes floating around the internet. Not sure if the links are still live, but you could start your hunt here:

if you can watch it all, yes watch all of Clone Wars and Rebels
However I would prioritize the last season of Rebels bc (it seems clear) it sets up where Ahsoka will focus
you can also cherry pick all Mandalore/Darksaber episodes from Clone Wars for much of the backstory for The Mandalorian - there will still be holes, but there will be a lot of depth added

I don't think I've ever been critical of this show but this finale was a missed opportunity. It could've been so much better. I'm not disappointed, maybe a little surprised. Having said that, there is a lot to like about this episode. The jetpack battle was pretty cool. Nice to see those mini knee rockets again. When Mando officially adopts Grogu, that had me feeling some kind of way. It had some cool moments but overall it was a let down for me. The final showdown with Moff Gideon and the Praetorian Guards just fell flat for me.
