I've given this some thought, and if they choose to go with burned face Doom (Originally he put his newly forged mask on before it had cooled and fried his face) and do voice modulation in the armor and it's not just RDJ obviously being RDJ, this can maybe be salvaged. Maybe. I'm not saying you "hide" RDJ per se. I'm just saying you do your best to create a visually and performatively distinct character that doesn't distract you every time he appears on screen. I don't want to be reminded of Tony Stark every time you see Doom. If they are being honest about him not being a Stark variant and simply being Victor...that's what you have to do.

I'm at the bargaining stage.

Doom is my favorite supervillain ever and I'm just trying to cope hahaha.

Unless they modify his voice a bit, but then we come back to why do RDJ and not someone else? Which brings us back to stunt casting. And please, please, please don't come with a "twist" that he's an evil Tony Stark from another part of the multiverse and took on the name of Doom.

They don't need to modify his voice. RDJ has played a black man before in Tropic Thunder. He can become a completely different human being.

And while I completely understand the apprehension about the casting choice, I’m not gonna write it off either. I think RDJ has a wide enough range and acting chops to play Doom. Since it appears they’ve already made their decision, I’m gonna wait and see what they do with it.

I mean, he wouldn’t be my first choice either, but it appears they’re gonna ride or die with him.

Honestly, I’d rather they revive Iron Man in a multiverse fix than have him play Doom. But it is what it is and Feige has more than earned the benefit of the doubt, although I’m sure people have wavered a bit, or even a lot, in their confidence in the franchise since Endgame, but I have no doubt they can recapture some of the magic that made them the juggernaut they are.

Who says we won't get both? He's officially back now, so I think we'll also be getting an Iron Man variant.

It’s more about what this says about the overall tenor of marvel behind the scenes- and clearly it’s a panic move
It was like when Jameis got hurt any many clamored to resign Drew - Drew would have been fine for a few games, but it would have further stymied the transition the team desperately needed

I just don’t know that RDJ would come to mind as Doom even without the “retread” casting choice is my only hang up. I can suspend disbelief enough to where the recasting itself really doesn’t bother me. Gemma Chan walked so RDJ could run.
