The next head coach is inheriting a mess (33 Viewers)

There might be some coaching candidates that think: "These guys were pretty damn good before the avalanche of injuries they faced this year.
Then suddenly that candidate will remember who the two teams were that the Saints managed to curb stomp to open the season.

What ever pic we get we need to trade away for as many pics as possible and get ready for the 2026 draft

LOL I really don't think people know how little Campbell had to do with turning the Lions around. He truly is the Ed Ogeron of the NFL His best move was to elevate Johnson to OC and hire Glenn as DC. Other than that it's pretty much all their GM Holmes was the architect
from 2020 to 2024 the Lions from the Stafford trade and their own picks had 19 draft picks in the top 100 of the draft AND they got Goff. With that kind of draft capital it's pretty hard to not be in a position to excel. Also they had plenty of cap space.
People also forget that Goff stunk up the joint until Johnson was made OC
Yes Campbell gets his players to play hard , just like Ogeron did at LSU
But he did not build that team , Holmes did and it's Johnson that runs the O and Glenn that runs the D
If the Saints had Holmes as GM and that kind of draft capital and cap space even DA would be successful

The turning around of the Lions has been a real team effort. From the owner hiring Chris Speilman to be in charge of building team culture. To the job Holmes has done. To what Dan and his staff has done on the field.

Dan does not get enough credit. I once had a martial arts instructor who had a degree in sports psychology and the man was amazing at motivating and getting people to buy in. He only did some of the intruction, but he organised the curriculum, was there to guide the instructors, provided direction, and was a constant source of evaluation and motivation. Dan reminds me of that guy, who had probably the most successful martial arts dojo in my country.

I don’t see us having the #1 pick. Maybe not even top 5. There are a ton of 2-7 win teams right now. And I think we’ll get at least 2-3 more wins.
Yes, the bad times will continue (minus new HC). We will end up with a completely unnecessary 4-13 record and earn a 7 spot due to so many sucky teams. We have a better chance of winning the remaining games than losing them all now. I know it is a dumb prediction. But things around here are always Twilight Zone level.

I'm confused, I thought people wanted DA gone, all I read are people who are anti Saints with all this doom and gloom about this franchise, I thought DA was the issue, it seems people just do not like the Saints.

There is talent here, a franchise that gets behind its coaches and want to win and have shown the manuverrabikity to add players to help improve the team each off-season.

This team needs a Head Coach a guy who knows football, not just offense or defense and we should see an immediate difference no matter the "talent" on the roster.

Definitely not a dumpster fire. It’s just a lazy retort to say all coaching vacancies are under bad circumstances when those bad circumstances can vary quite a bit.
Oddly, the Saints vacancy in January ‘22 was one of the few I can recall where a new coach would be inheriting a team coming off a winning season.

That’s not fair to Campbell. He spent years learning from Payton after he didn’t get the full time HC job with the Dolphins.

They definitely have better personnel. But just dismissing the job DC has done isn’t fair.
How so ?? DC has never even been an OC or DC. Not and X's and O's . Has never run either side of the ball. I think it's very fair to say that he's gotten EXTREMELY lucky to hire the right OC and DC AND have a good GM with a windfall of picks and cap space

unfortunately ur prob right but at least no more carolina games we likely would win

Bullhockey Speilman is just an assistant to the CEO. Sorry but martial arts and the ultimate TEAM sport are miles apart. DC is basically a cheerleader talking about grit while Johnson and Glenn to the brain work and Holmes is the architect of the team

You clearly have no idea what your talking about.

A head coach is part football guy, part motivator, part executive. And you undervalue the the motivator part. When you have someone who is a good motivator, going to work or whatever activity is a million times better and productive.

I have no idea how good DC is at other things but it is clear that he is quite good at the executive part because his players always look organised, they understand their role and the gameplan, and they are ready to go. That doesn't happen without someone at the top who knows how to organise his people and practices. DA's teams look horrible and make mistakes all the time.

You also underestimate the motivation part and call it being a cheerleader. The example I used the guy was in competition with a dozen other studios, many going out of business and at the time he had 250+ regular members... 25 years later he is still in business while hundreds of other places came and went in his area. Many of his customers were police and military. So building buy in is an art. DA didn't have this. No one seemed to trust that what was happening would work.

As to Spellman his job is really interesting. He is there advising Shiela Ford as they go through different aspects of the year. They obviously have a set of goals for the organisation on what they want it to look like. The owner is drawing on his experience in who to hire and what culture to create. You seem to dismiss this. Imagine what our team would look like if Gayle had an ex-player guiding her in the same manner; instead, she has Loomis who has never played a down of football in his life..
