Titan fans NOT happy about the no call on the forced fumble (1 Viewer)

By letter of the rule, Kamara was not horse collared. The defender has to pull him down with his hand inside the back of the shoulder pad, or from the back of the jersey near the nameplate. The defenders hand was on the front of his shoulder. I’m basing this off the angles shown on TV, but maybe there is some other angle showing differently. But still the play was dangerous and serious injury could occur.

By rule, it was not a horse collar. By end result, it was identical to a horse collar. It was a good no-call.

I get it, their season might have ended with that call
Now imagine if their season ended on an incorrect call - or even the worst call in nfl history
Imagine the salt then

Yesterday's game had zero bearing on them making the playoffs. They couldn't be eliminated and they couldn't clinch anything.

Here's why it was the correct call.

  • A receiver attempting to catch a pass who has not had time to clearly become a runner. If the player is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending contact of an opponent, he is no longer a defenseless player
  • The intended receiver of a pass in the action during and immediately following an interception or potential interception. If the player is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending contact of an opponent, he is no longer a defenseless player.
Note: Violations of this provision will be enforced after the interception, and the intercepting team will maintain possession.
Inherently, because the player was ruled to have made a football move, and clearly did, he became a runner. At which point a shoulder to helmet hit is not a penalty.
This.

One second earlier, and the penalty would have probably been correctly called. I don't blame them for being upset about it at all. We sure would, especially if it had contributed to a loss.

It's like the WR got waffled. 1 defender was against his body, keeping it from rolling with the impact. So his upper body took the full impact.

Exactly. It's that one second that allowed him to tuck the ball start trying to run off and then get the ball knocked out. We were just fortunate that CJGJ got there after that one second had passed because he likely would have been hitting a defenseless receiver and justified a penalty.

The interesting thing on this one was they did review the play. The fact that they called it a fumble and upheld that on review indicates that the receiver had the ball and made a football move. So, as others have said, he was therefor ruled NOT to be defenseless.
although they couldn’t technically review if there was an illegal hit, in effect they did review that and found it to be legal.

I believe it was a good no-call, but I can understand why they are upset. That's a call we expect the NFL to make these days. I know I was looking for a flag on the play. I am certainly glad it wasn't called, but I sure thought it was going to be.

I saw some idiot post the Saints fan base is the most obnoxious, I wish a 2nd Hurricane Katrina would wipe them out, or something like that. Man, what type of forked up people live in TN? Also, anyone who went to the game, how was the atmosphere there?

Here it is from TitansReport. Some people…..

Not going to be popular with this opinion but we would be too. I have seen too many thread about refs and inconsistent calls and we got away with one honestly. I am so surprise they didn't call that one. Base on my understanding, he may have hit him with his shoulder but any contact to the other player's head or neck will always, regardless if you lead with your shoulder or not, will draw a flag. That should of been a flag. Down vote it if you want but you know if it was the other way around, you guys would be furious too.

I thought they would throw a flag and glad they didn't; however, he lead with shoulder and the receiver put his head down. Therefore, it was a legal hit and there was nothing CJGJ could have done differently. This is football and injuries happen. If we throw PI for something that is unavoidable, then we might want to just get rid of the whole NFL.

I do understand the view from the other side; however, we have to be able to see the truth at the end. Who Dat!
