I don't think Belarus is a safe haven. It's a suburb of Moscow. He would need to go to Africa somewhere.
I don't believe anywhere on this planet right now is safe for him, personally. He could flee or try to hide in some remote, heavily-forested area in a nation hostile or neutral to Putin's Russia (like India) and his FSB agents---somehow, someway devising some halfway ingenious/insidious plot to kill him in a dramatic fashion, or just slowly poison him and maybe he realizes it when its too late to reverse it.

If Putin wishes him dead, especially now after going against him, after losing his nerve, getting so irritated and enraged at the pace, deadly slog, death and destruction of a war that you had serious reservations, doubts beforehand and these fears have become manifest due to pitiful fighting performances of Russian troops, war crimes, mostly committed by your paramilitary organization, and well over 100,000+ soldiers dead and wounded (and still counting), Putin will never forgive him and will order his FSB to "liquidate" you.

Clandestinely, perhaps slowly but it will happen. Prigs is a dead man walking, and he likely knows it.

The FSB is no different from its predecessors, the GRU, KGB, or the NKVD, in how meticulously ruthless, efficient and time-consuming they can be in searching, monitoring real, possible or imagined enemies and then carefully waiting for the moment to eliminate them. In the 1930's, an NKVD agent planted a bomb in a box of chocolates and then detonated it to kill a Russian dissident-in-exile, a NKVD agent used a ice pick-axe to blutchen Leon Trotsky to death in his Mexico City villa after failing a week before when Mexican Communists, dressed as bandits, started shooting rounds at his house from the streets outside. They even considered assassinating Hitler, in Munich, once in the mid/late 1930's by bombing his favorite Italian restaurant.

I think his plan was initially to go to Moscow and then as the day went on, realized that it was going to be a bloodbath for both sides and not get anything he wanted. He seems to be sort of a hot head and just went off til he had time to really think it thru.

So yeah I think he came around to a point of "What the Fork! am I doing ..what we gonna do if we capture Moscow" and that scared him. He doesn't want to be President...he wants to continue PMC Wagner, make billions and live his life.

I think the plan was put together with others and he just abandoned them. Do Belarus offers safe haven ...quasi exile. But he is a targeted man by some who may not like his 180 turn.

Now word is there is no guarantee Shoigu gets canned.

Was there some leverage Putin had over him? Family?

I wouldn't drink any tea. Ever.

As for Putin he is gonna have to do something soon as a "show of strength" I think. What that is I don't know.
I hope his "show of strength" doesn't involve using tactical nuclear weapons on Ukrainian forces, units or major cities like Kviv, Kherson, etc. Still, if he did decide to use them in a limited, tactical basis, besides worldwide outrage, condemnation, and maybe even some saber-rattling from USA, UK, or other top NATO nations to intervene, he knows that is a perilous "red line" we won't cross to punish him because it would likely lead to a full-scale nuclear conflict.

I would also advise Prigs to never drink tea again, but honestly, they could just as easily poison his Coke/Pepsi's or even Kool-Aid/Flavr-Aid if they chose. Jim Jones proved that, albeit forcefully and against most his believers wishes, in Jonestown almost 45 years ago. KGB tried to poison one former Afghan Communist president who wasnt listening to their instructions in the late 1970's by poisoning his Coke-Cola but the plot wasnt well-organized, and the ambulance drivers who showed up to take him to the hospital werent aware of what was going on, and managed to save his life, for the time being. When the Soviets finally invaded Afghanistan in December 1979 and captured Presidential Palace in Kabul, Spetnaez forces murdered him and his entire family.

Mmmm, no, I'm not referring to the political shenanigans at the top. I agree that is a story as old as humans collecting as tribes. I'm talking about the fatalistic non-response of their serfs. Not gonna do the historical psychological profiling here, but the Russian people are historically different.
Why should they do anythihng? How is it affecting them personally?

Their sons, daughters, grandsons, fathers, and other extended relatives are currently embroiled in a bloody, extremely devastating, costly war that has seen over 100,000+ of their countrymen wounded, blown up, shattered by missile drone strikes, or mortar shells, bodies riddled by bullets, picked off by Ukrainian snipers, sappers for a war whose reasoning defies logical sense and reasoning, and is based around centuries-old pan-Slavic ultra-Russian nationalist aspirations, fanatical dreams of expansionism into Middle East, conquering Istanbul/Constantinople, extending Russian religious, economic, or cultural influence further into Eastern Europe, South Asia, and even parts of mainland China.

These same ideals were the basis for three wars fought between Tsarist Russia and Ottoman Turkey throughout the 19th century (including the Crimean War). Putin is a huge admirer of Czar Peter the Great, who originally opened Russia to Western influence and liked to use dental pliars to pull people's teeth if they were sore and ordered Russian Orthodox priests to shave their beards, and Putin doesn't believe Ukraine has a legitimate, sovereign right to exist outside of Russian domination, control, or influence.

He's bothered because he perceives Ukraine as being too pro-West, and wanting to move closer to NATO and EU and decided to invade to prevent that.
