N/S Why has it taken so long for Caleb Williams to be exposed as a Bust? Smells like the Jets Zac Wilson. (1 Viewer)

Byrye is just entering his second year, so it's a little early to call him a bust.
I get what you are saying. But, when a team gives up 2 #1s and change to draft you and you are not good out the box...........you a 1st rd bust.

I'm bookmarking this thread. I'll bet the farm this one will age like a carton of milk left out in the sun on an August day. Worse than our
You do that. Funny, that is what everyone said about my Zach Wilson, and Bryce Young posts. Where are those guys now? Crickets!!!

Look Zoltar, those 3 were honestly not stretches. If you look back at many drafts, most of the 1st round picks are busts. People doubted all 3 that you predicted. Bryce was both overrated and in an impossible situation with Carolina and Tepper Madness. Nearly the same thing with the Jets, but I think Wilson somehow is less talented than Young. And Penning played at a directional school, in IOWA.

The problem is, Im not sure you could send Jesus in his prime to Chicago and he would meet expectations, so Williams would be up against the wall before he stepped on a field. There is no history of quality QB play in Chicago. Its a nearly impossible place to play historically, and its not like they are a QB away from contending.

His only goal in life should be to somehow not end up in Chicago.
How good was the Texans, the Bengals, and Jacksonville, before CJ, Burrow, and Trevor got there?

Ah, yes! The one other place that makes this assertion.

Concerns

1. Downward trajectory ⎯Williams regressed in 2023.

2. NFL Expectations ⎯will be crazy high. The expectations alone will cause him to be a bust.

3. Time to throw ⎯Pro Football Focus recorded Williams at 3.44 seconds in 2022 and 3.21 seconds in 2023. Williams was sacked 63 times (2022-2023). Only seven NFL QBs are over 3 seconds (NEXT GEN STATS). Bears’ QB Justin Fields was the slowest (3.23 seconds). Fields was sacked 99 times (2022-2023).

4. Glorifed system QB ⎯I did an independent study this season, Williams’ best completion percentages came throwing 44-62% short passes. His three worst games (55.9%-57.5%) were fewer short passes.

5. Not a big game QB ⎯Williams was 2-9 against ranked teams the past two seasons.

6. Fumbles ⎯ 32 fumbles in 36 games.

7. Post-game conduct ⎯refused to shake hands with Utah and refused to talk to reporters after the UCLA loss.

8. Nature ⎯Wants to get out of structure as a passer and get reckless as a runner (increased injury risk). He reverts to locking in with receivers. Additionally, he talked down about a fan calling him a “sheep,” and he does unpredictable and uncensored things ranging from painting obscenities on his fingernails to jumping into the stands and crying in his mother’s arms.

9. Inexperienced dealing with adversity ⎯According to Sports Illustrated (Nov. 28, 2023) Williams said, “I’ve never been in this situation, where I’m 7–5 and there are no playoff hopes at the end of the season. I’m dealing with it emotionally, dealing with it spiritually and physically. ”

10. Holiday Bowl ⎯USC bounced right back (same offensive line and defense) against No. 15 Louisville with QB Miller Moss who was making his first career start and he matched Williams’ USC high of six touchdown passes in a game.

Yea you really went out on a limb there bud. Very original opinions that no one else had. A true draft consigliere.

Naw, you don't get it really....he may wind up being a bust but right now, considering the circumstances of his rookie year, there is no way to know....

There are 0 rookie QB's in history that would have been successful in that putrid excuse for an offense....

He cried after losing a bowl game in the arms of his mother.

Absolutely nothing to be ashamed of there. Shame on the individual who decided to broadcast what should have been a private moment.

Yep.

I know some may disagree or even somehow take offense, but someday people are going to realize that these are essentially children who are being drafted. Some guys are mature beyond their years, but the older I get, the more I realize that we are indeed watching kids out there when it comes to the rookies and younger players.

They are still growing mentally, and many are a year or two removed from being a “teenager,” and all the connotations that come with that.

You missed the point. Its playing quarterback in specifically Chicago thats next to impossible. History says its laughable how bad its been for QBs who went to die in Chicago. Its not just bad franchises. Its Chicago. Im not sure CJ, Burrow or Trevor could be anywhere near the QBs the are in Chicago. Its an impossible place to play QB. No QB has ever arrived in Chicago. You cant even name a QB that is even borderline decent for longer than a year.

History does not lie. Lets look at your franchises from a QB perspective, and when they became franchises.

(1968) Cincinatti has had 3 different QBs, and 6 seasons over 4k. Theyve had 28 seasons over 3k.

(1995) Jacksonville has had 3 different QBs throw for 4k, and 15 seasons over 3k. Theyve been a franchise 28 years.

(2002) Houston has 6 seasons over 4k, and theyve been a franchise for 21 years.

(1920) One Hundred and Four seasons. Chicago has never had a 4k passer, and have had only 12 3k yard seasons in 104 years.

The 3 formerly hapless franchises you listed have been playing for a total of 105 season, and have 16 seasons over 4k, and 53 seasons over 3k

The Bears have been a franchise 104 season, and have 0 4k, and 12 3k.

So yes, I cant see Williams, JV Uncle Rico or Jesus Christ in his prime going to Chicago and becoming a perennial pro bowl QB. You wont be predicting anything if Williams goes to Chicago and is a bust. Its expected at this point. Anywhere else he will be fine.

Daniels and Maye are way better prospects than Williams. I understand, that no team is going to pass on Williams if the Bears don't take him. He is the kind of bust that really sinks a team.

Because he will fail because of his poor emotional development, not athletic ability. Everyone seems to be in a hurry to crown him, but he is just so avg. at times. I wouldn't want him at all in the 1st rd. He really reminds me of Zac Wilson of the Jets. I'm not very good at picking the next great QB, Purdy, Storud etc. They were never on my radar. But, I can spot a high 1st rd bust a mile away.

If you disagree, I invite your reply, and reasons why.
Proof. I didn't like him either. But you are hard

Ill bet you all hope that he falls to 14............

If you're saying that monkeys fly out of your rear end, then you can walk on rainbows.

Do you see how ridiculous you sound to attach a premise to someone that didn't say what you're implying they said? Come on now.
Context my friend. This thread is about how someone is flabbergasted that we don't think Williams is going to be a bust. The post you responded to and your response is
There are a lot of great Football players that seem a little emotional unstable.
Name one player that is emotionally unstable that has succeeded at the QB position?

Since this thread IS about Williams it's only natural to think your post was about Williams. Hence I asked if you were saying Williams was emotionally unstable
