Will winston be back next year? (1 Viewer)

It will depend on what happens while he’s gone, sadly

Whoever QBs for this team, if they have large success… chances are Saints will continue building onto that.

If this team is mediocre throughout the rest of the season… then, they cannot wait to see Winston back

Works that way everywhere… not just football

Personally think he performed as good as you could have hoped with this lackluster supporting cast.

Seriously? Throwing his teammates under the bus?

Another season, another excuse.

At some point, y'all need to let him take responsibility for his play. Play that was improving by the way.

Dude, I know you are a certified hater but what teammates did he throw under the bus?

He said that? Or are you referring to a comment in the thread?
Yes, he said that.

Edit : You should re-read my post. I'm addressing what the poster said NOT something Winston said. My issue is with "Who Dat? DrewDat" not JW.

Any idea if he had the surgery yet? Recovery is around 9 months. That puts the calendar at August. Can he get game ready in that month?

I've been thinking about this since the injury.

I think Jameis returns next season, but not on a huge contract. It will be something more like the contract that Brees signed when he came here from SD, call it a more than a prove it, but less than a "max contract". The 3/$60M with $20M guaranteed mentioned above, sounds about right.

Since Jameis was the #1 overall pick, he's made quite a bit of money in the NFL already. $52M according to Spotrac.

Jameis is still a young QB even though he's been in the league for 7 seasons. He's still only 27 y/o since he was 21 his rookie season. By comparison, Brees was 22 and Brady was 23 and they weren't starters until 23 and 24 respectively. Jameis started his rookie season and then he was a backup his age 26 season and now injured his age 27 season. He'll be 28 next season, his 8th season in the NFL. If he returns as QB1 next season, he'll essentially be on the same timeline as a QB who sat a year or two at the beginning of their career, but he'll be ~2 years younger since he came into the league at 21 whereas most QBs are coming in at 22/23 after 3 or 4 years of college.

Keeping Winston as QB1 is a lot more realistic than pursuing Wilson or Rodgers for 2022. Winston still has time to earn at least 1-2 more contracts should he continue to develop and reinvent himself in CSP's system.

As for Book, having a QB2 on a rookie contract isn't a bad thing considering where the team has to allocate funds over the next few seasons.

Rehabilitation includes getting back in form so it would start before August. Assuming the surgery all goes as planned he should be back in form for the start of the season.

Swelling needs to go down first, so maybe next week or so. I mention Burrow because his injury occurred in late November and he was fine (I know all recoveries are different but I'm sure he will be dedicated). The team will probably be monitoring his progress but he doesn't have the luxury that Dak or Burrow had as entrenched starters.

Agree, but contract will have to be similar to the one Jamei’s signed this off season.

If Taysom blows up and Saints make a run this could change.

I think JW will be physically ready next season but he may have to overcome the mental impact of the injury. It can make you more cautious and even gunshy.

He might tame the instinct to run a rouch.

Too many plot twists this year. Richt, now I feel like almost anything is possible.

Sort of a "Next Shoe to Drop" vibe this season.

I think he did enough to stick he kept his turnovers down and u could see him improve each game (not looking at the numbers but his comfort level). We will get him cheeper than if he had played the whole season, right or wrong that’s how it works.

I also think the injury is going to help him in the long run. He wants this job bad and I think he will try to impress in meetings and in film study. He will come out of this with a better grasp of the offense and be a better qb for it. His teammates allready love him I think this makes them even closer when they watch him fight back.

We will have a better QB on a decent deal at the end of this… but Taysom seizes the moment in a major way then all bets are off.

I think Jameis is back on a 1 year deal if we don’t get Wilson. I think we are going to make a serious run at Wilson.
