The New Orleans Saints are moving into a new era this offseason with a multitude of changes that could bring both positives and negatives.

But one of the things happening off of the field is that Saints orthopedic surgeon Dr. Karim Meijer, who is regarded as of the top figures in his profession, is leaving the Saints.

Rivalries often form in the divisions purely off playing each other frequently, especially when both teams are good. Not all rivalries are created equal, however. For example, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers tried, and still try, to force a rivalry with the New Orleans Saints when Tom Brady came to town.

While the top of the NFL world enjoys the postseason, the New Orleans Saints are among the group that already focusing on next year.

After the worst campaign in recent team history ended with a 5-12 record, they still draft all the way down at No. 9 thanks to the sheer amount of teams that struggled to win games this year. They have plenty of holes to fill so rather than focusing on one specific need, they can afford to go with whatever player they feel is best when they get on the clock.

There are only four teams that have spent fewer selections in the NFL draft than the New Orleans Saints since they promoted Mickey Loomis to general manager back in 2003.

Those teams are the Minnesota Vikings (285), Los Angeles Chargers (282), Pittsburgh Steelers (268) and the league-low Green Bay Packers (267 players drafted), according to the data from Stathead and Pro Football Reference.

The Detroit Lions fell from the playoffs quicker than expected and gave up 45 points to the Washington Commanders, though seven of those came off an interception returned for a touchdown. It’s led to a lot of football fans on social media questioning this loss’s impact on Aaron Glenn’s head coaching candidacy.

If NFL commissioner Roger Goodell gets his wish, New Orleans Saints fans and fans around the league will get a chance to see their favorite team one more week each season.
