Man are you gonna get flamed. But I though JH was a better start, he sees the field better nad hangs in the pocket better. SR is too quick to abandon the pocket and run or move into a sack and that's just what happened on Sun. Yes he's a better threat to run but he takes off too early when he has people openI thought Haener would have been the better option going into this game, still think that’s the case—and I’m not a Haener fan. This is an on schedule offense, it’s not made for a guy to be bailing from the pocket trying to make something happen each play. Out of guys like Purdy, Goff, Cousins, Stafford, Tua, etc, where are these Shanahan/McVay-type offenses relying on their QB’s to live outside the pocket in the scramble drill each play? Also, as someone else in the thread pointed out, Rattler doesn’t have exceptional athleticism to run around, if he did he likely wouldn’t have fallen to the 5th round.
One game doesn’t decide Rattler’s future, he may have a lot of promise that gets realized through experience. I think DA made a mistake by not going with the QB that is better built for this offense, and that has an extra year practicing with NFL caliber players. He seems more likely be successful enough to hold things together until Carr returns, even if he isn’t meant to be a long term NFL starter. We averaged 14 yards per drive (on eight drives) after that 70-yard scoring drive, and that was against a much worse defense than the one we will see on Thursday.
Winston actually got hurt using his mobility and escaping the pocket to run (when he then got horse-collared by Devin White). The concern with mobile QBs is that they get hurt. But Winston and Carr have gotten hurt the last few seasons despite not having much ability to keep the play alive, either by moving in the pocket or by taking off and running.
That's overhyping him by a considerable margin. Shaheed was a big reason why we were in this game by halftime by scoring the team's first TD, cutting the margin to 17-10. And while the defense did give up 17 first half points, they also made INTs that set the offense up at the TB28 (Saints FG), TB10 (Saints TD), and NO40 (Saints punt).Rattler was the only reason we were in this game by halftime. He had no protection, ran for 1st downs, lost his #1 guy, threw dimes when he could find an open target…. And many of his best plays got called back on penalties or the guy who caught if fumbled.
He’s the future…. The only question is when does that permanent future start.
I’m not overhyping anything…. Shaheed return got us going. But Spencer lead us positive plays and points to the tune of this before everything went tits up after half.Winston actually got hurt using his mobility and escaping the pocket to run (when he then got horse-collared by Devin White).

I do share your sentiment though that Rattler has the goods to be the future franchise QB of the Saints.

Yes, you very much are. You said that he was the only reason the Saints were in the game by halftime. That is just wrong to give him solo credit for that when Shaheed and special teams got into the endzone for the first TD and the defense set up a 10 yard field for the offense to get the second TD.
To what Winston conversation are you even referring and how does that even matter here? It's clear you are overhyping Rattler and downplaying everything else. Getting 20 yards is a "good punt return." Scoring the team's first TD and making the home crowd come alive is more than just "good." And the defense didn't just get a couple turnovers; they got 3 turnovers, two of which immediately put the offense in scoring position (one as deep as the opponent's 10 yard line). He was…. I already explained why in previous posts. I’m not doing the whole Jameis Winston conversation with you again. Shaheed had a good return, defense did get a couple turnovers…. Given all the problems with the offense.. no blocking…. No run game…. No Olave…. Drops…. Fumbles…. The guy gave us a chance until everything unraveled in the 2nd half. That’s not hype. It’s what happened.
That falls on our Kubiak...I liked what I saw from Rattler overall. My only problem was where was the adjustment when Bowles starting blitzing him every possession from the last drive in the first half. That was inexcusable!!!!
