Spencer Rattler’s first start was… (3 Viewers)

NO~! I "expect" for his Coaches and Teammates to give him more information and tendencies of his own WRs~! Three long balls to Shaheed under thrown! Seems someone would have told him just to hurl the ball as far as possible and Rasheed will run under it, catch it and SCORE~! Still, seeing AK#41 drop a couple he clearly should have caught? I don't know what to make of this TEAM as a whole~! Once the blitzes came and weren't picked up? That took SR's mind into preoccupied mode with no one scheming to help him..........The entire situation is sad. Rattler throwing to the people he's been practicing with told the tale.....Needs more time on task and let's see.....I'd start Heaner vs Sean's sad arse Broncos just because Jake's thrown to the 1st string players a bit more.....I suppose........It truly is a bad situation. NO FIRE in the souls of what few players we have left~!
Nope stick with Spencer. He has something going and I’m sure he will know how to adjust bc this was his first true live action, in a game with meaning. I have no doubts that he replayed the game in his head all night before bed.
Plus, SP has their own problems in Denver. They had like 17 passing yards going into the 4th and absolutely couldn’t run the ball.

I thought Haener would have been the better option going into this game, still think that’s the case—and I’m not a Haener fan. This is an on schedule offense, it’s not made for a guy to be bailing from the pocket trying to make something happen each play. Out of guys like Purdy, Goff, Cousins, Stafford, Tua, etc, where are these Shanahan/McVay-type offenses relying on their QB’s to live outside the pocket in the scramble drill each play? Also, as someone else in the thread pointed out, Rattler doesn’t have exceptional athleticism to run around, if he did he likely wouldn’t have fallen to the 5th round.

One game doesn’t decide Rattler’s future, he may have a lot of promise that gets realized through experience. I think DA made a mistake by not going with the QB that is better built for this offense, and that has an extra year practicing with NFL caliber players. He seems more likely be successful enough to hold things together until Carr returns, even if he isn’t meant to be a long term NFL starter. We averaged 14 yards per drive (on eight drives) after that 70-yard scoring drive, and that was against a much worse defense than the one we will see on Thursday.
Man are you gonna get flamed. But I though JH was a better start, he sees the field better nad hangs in the pocket better. SR is too quick to abandon the pocket and run or move into a sack and that's just what happened on Sun. Yes he's a better threat to run but he takes off too early when he has people open

I think Rattler is what you need in today's NFL. The mobility and late in the play ability has been missing with the Saints for years.

Brees had some of it due to his preternatural ability to move up in the pocket to elude the rush while keeping his eyes downfield.

Since Brees: Winston, Dalton and Carr -- not so much.

The concern with mobile QBs is that they get hurt. But Winston and Carr have gotten hurt the last few seasons despite not having much ability to keep the play alive, either by moving in the pocket or by taking off and running.

Rattler was the only reason we were in this game by halftime. He had no protection, ran for 1st downs, lost his #1 guy, threw dimes when he could find an open target…. And many of his best plays got called back on penalties or the guy who caught if fumbled.

In the 2nd half…. Tampa’s staff made adjustments, and we just kept throwing the kid to the wolves. After that he just started to take chances to keep us in it….

Sometimes I don’t know what other people are watching.

This was a no win situation for him. He did about what I expected. He showed he has the goods…. But as a rookie in his 1st start he wasn’t going to be able overcome the avalanche of injuries, no help, and lack of coaching adjustments.

He also threw some 50/50 balls to Shaheed that a contested catch guy would come down with for a big play…. Shaheed is a great player…. But contested catches aren’t his thing and Spencer had nowhere else to go with the ball.

He’s the future…. The only question is when does that permanent future start.

Winston actually got hurt using his mobility and escaping the pocket to run (when he then got horse-collared by Devin White).

That's overhyping him by a considerable margin. Shaheed was a big reason why we were in this game by halftime by scoring the team's first TD, cutting the margin to 17-10. And while the defense did give up 17 first half points, they also made INTs that set the offense up at the TB28 (Saints FG), TB10 (Saints TD), and NO40 (Saints punt).

I do share your sentiment though that Rattler has the goods to be the future franchise QB of the Saints.

I haven't post any opinion about the game. But I will say this...Rattler play decent. Had some great moments. He shown he has the ability to play in this league. No question. He made some rookie mistakes. He missed on some wide open receivers. And he kind of panic too early on some plays. He needs to get out of those bad habits he had in college. With all that said, compare to a lot of rookie quarterback in history making their first start, I will say he did pretty well. This game was not lost by him. Yes those turnovers did hurt, but DEFENSE>>>OMG what is wrong with that group. His receivers weren't much help in the second half. Start with Olave fumbling the ball. Guys dropping passes. Big passes for a first down near the red zone by Juwan being calling back by a dancing Shaheed who can't get their feet set fast enough. Second week in a role a big play was called back because receiver not set. What's up with our receiver going in motion and not getting their feet set fast enough. I watched the replay and it looks like the receiver are hopping around before they got set. I am very happy tight ends got involved. Wished there were more calls involving the tight ends. It would of help Rattler in this game.

For Rattler to have success this year, the defense definitely needs to play better. The defense did it for Bridgewater and Taysom that time. They can do it for Rattler.

I’m not overhyping anything…. Shaheed return got us going. But Spencer lead us positive plays and points to the tune of this before everything went tits up after half.

Yes, you very much are. You said that he was the only reason the Saints were in the game by halftime. That is just wrong to give him solo credit for that when Shaheed and special teams got into the endzone for the first TD and the defense set up a 10 yard field for the offense to get the second TD.

He was…. I already explained why in previous posts. I’m not doing the whole Jameis Winston conversation with you again. Shaheed had a good return, defense did get a couple turnovers…. Given all the problems with the offense.. no blocking…. No run game…. No Olave…. Drops…. Fumbles…. The guy gave us a chance until everything unraveled in the 2nd half. That’s not hype. It’s what happened.

In fact, his first half performance and numbers had him on his way to player of the week honors…. Then the entire staff and team shat the bed after half.

To what Winston conversation are you even referring and how does that even matter here? It's clear you are overhyping Rattler and downplaying everything else. Getting 20 yards is a "good punt return." Scoring the team's first TD and making the home crowd come alive is more than just "good." And the defense didn't just get a couple turnovers; they got 3 turnovers, two of which immediately put the offense in scoring position (one as deep as the opponent's 10 yard line).
