The Athletic’s Nick Baumgardner and Scott Dochterman took on the tough task of grading every pick all 32 NFL teams made in the first three rounds of the 2024 NFL draft, and their early reviews are very positive for the New Orleans Saints.

Which is very encouraging to hear, seeing as the Saints have only made two picks so far. They need to get the most out of first-round right tackle Taliese Fuaga and second-round cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry, so this is at least a good start. Here’s what Baumgardner wrote of Fuaga’s fit at No. 14:

Day 2 of the 2024 NFL draft is now behind us and each team in the NFC South has added at least one player to their squad. There was a lot of trading going on as each team tried to walk away with their guys. No pick was as head-scratching as the Atlanta Falcons taking Michael Penix Jr. at No. 8 overall in the first round (though they tried their best).

But how did the New Orleans Saints compare to the Falcons, Carolina Panthers, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers after Day 2? Here is what each team walked away with in our latest draft grades:

We have a good idea of what the New Orleans Saints are looking for in the NFL draft. Their archetypes and athletic profiles are pretty well-defined; they want big athletes who move well for their size, and who often come from high-profile college programs. Leadership roles and participation in all-star games like the Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Bowl are a plus. Athletic testing provides key data points, too.

So with that in mind, we’ve narrowed down the list of prospects going into the 2024 draft’s third and final day. The Saints are going to make several picks on Day 3 and it’s highly likely they’ll try to trade up into Round 4, given their multiple selections in Round 5, 6, and 7. These 30 prospects check the boxes and should be on New Orleans’ radar:

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers went defense in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft as they select defensive end Chris Braswell at No. 57 overall.

Braswell has a chance to contribute immediately in the pass rush. He was hidden behind a lot of talent at Alabama for the past few years, but finally started opposite Dallas Turner in 2023. He had eight sacks and 10.5 total tackles for a loss last season with the Crimson Tide.

This was big: The New Orleans Saints traded up and selected cornerback Kool-Aid Mckinstry in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft. The team traded pick Nos. 168 and 190 to move up from No. 45 to pick No. 41. With the uncertainty of Marshon Lattimore’s future and Paulson Adebo being in a contract year, this pick made sense. Isaac Yiadom played nearly half the snaps for New Orleans last year before leaving in free agency, so they needed more depth.
