I hope we focus more on antibody testing. it lets us know just how many have actually been infected and were pretty much asymptomatic, gives us a better indication of the true mortality rate, and also can let us work toward a herd immunity.

Again, we still don't know how effective having antibodies will be in preventing reinfection. I'm hoping it works, but there are some concerning signs that it may not work or that it's effectiveness may be limited. And if that's the case, I suspect that gonna make coming up with a vaccine really hard. These things mutate often enough to possibly render vaccines highly ineffective. It's a similar reason flu vaccines change every year based on forecasting which strain will be most widespread.

Sara Nelson is president of the flight attendants union - I presume this is accurate.

This is what I was referring to earlier. With half-hearted measures, the virus will never disappear. Full flights without PPE, packed to the gills home improvement centers, half-assed social distancing at Wal-Mart......while tons of small businesses will go bankrupt. And the virus will still be here in a month.....two months. Are we supposed to be able to weather another couple months of "lockdown"? Cause the way we are enforcing things, the virus will never get to zero. FACT!

Even if not for preventing infection, they can also give us a much better idea of the mortality rate.

I don't think anyone ever supposed that the virus was going to zero either way.

Except for some guy who said the virus would disappear like a miracle. But apart from that dude.

Saw this tonight and thought as a governor this has to be the closest thing you will get to saying you made the best decision possible given the circumstances.
Local news had a poll to see what people thought about DeWine's plan
Agree with plan- 38%
Wanted more open-36%
Disagree with plan-26%

Not sure you can make a decision as a politician that's more equal then that.

Lol, that's crazy, and exactly what he said what would happen. He was on point with those comments.

It also tells me a couple other things. First is how serious the state is taking it in general. People are hurting financially....I would've expected a much higher percentage wanting it more open. It also tells me how purple our state is. I would think a red or blue bias would also skew those percentages. That's pretty balanced.

It's an interesting scenario for sure.

Well, Louisiana is extending the Stay at Home Order until May 15. The governor says we have not met the Phase One gate because of lack of testing capacity and the fact that several regions in the state still have rising numbers of cases (Monroe area-Northeast Lousiana) and others have only reached a plateau with no decreases (North Shore of New Orleans).

Interestingly, those are more rural areas than other parts of the state unlike New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

I believe the rising numbers in Ouachita parish is partly a side effect of the tornadoes that hit 2 weeks ago. One of them cut a 8 mile swath starting in Bawcomville, jumped the river, then tore up sections of south Monroe all the way to the airport/Mall area. Lots of destroyed houses that forced many to double up with family or friends and many people walking around sightseeing the damage with little to no protection.

Honestly, I’d probably take that is a lack of testing and follow up from recovery. Seems like that is the percentage relative to recovered. It looks like they have had around 19k cases so far.

They still have an insane death rate but that could also be due to a lack of testing.

Yes, we will see what happens. Haven’t lived in Sweden in 20 years. However, they are mostly testing people in retirement homes, so that’s one major reason the death% is so high.
