Cutting the cable, lets talk options and media setups (2 Viewers)

Will be interesting to see if it will only be available through at&t internet or better yet the new fiber network. Sounds too good to be true.

I am loving Vue, although the menu is slow on my firestick but I think that might be due to memory on the stick.

Don't worry. It's slows as hell hardwired on my PS3 also.

We just signed up for Sling (Walking Dead premiere, yo) and I think it's great. Most channels include some (but not a lot of) on-demand programming, which I didn't expect, so that's a bonus.
SlingTV credentials are good for ESPN3 app as well as Fox Now and FX Now.

DirectTV/ATT now into the streaming service? Looks like they want to get into SlingTV's fame too! $35 a month gets you $100+ channels

Fox networks sign on with DirecTV Now

That certainly could be an important addition for sports-minded viewers considering DirecTV Now. Leaked documents from last month suggested FS1 would be included, but it’s new to see that FS2, BTN and regional sports networks will be in this package as well. Add that to Turner, ESPN and NBC (although there are still questions about how local NBC programming will work on this), and most of the sports bases are covered, although the lack of CBS could be a problem for NFL, SEC football and NCAA basketball fans. For $35 a month, and with the ability to get a Fire TV stick with a one-month commitment or an Apple TV with a three-month commitment, this may well be worth checking out. AT&T’s set to reveal more details of the service at a launch event this coming Monday.

So thoughts on this...

I'm thinking of dropping Hulu. Seeing that most of the networks now have their own on-demand apps that provide viewing for no charge (screw you CBS Access), is it really worth paying the cost for Hulu? Any reason any of you current users would keep it around?

AoS is the only thing I watch
if one was cordless and still had some network shows in rotation, i could see keeping it, but once you've seen Misfits I see no reason to keep it - not sure why my wife still gets it

Cancelled cable today. Feels kinda weird for some reason. Kind of like when your kids move out. Glad to have peace and quiet yet you miss the noise.

The reason was simple. I watch zero tv except for football. Luckily my son lives next door so missing games is not a concern. Wife only watched the Hallmark channel and Dr. Phil occasionally

My two year contract expired and new bill was going to be $213.00 for tv and Internet. Over an hour on the phone begging for discounts ended with a request to cancel tv service.

We have Amazon Prime and Fire TV so all we are really missing is Hallmark Channel. Felt bad for my wife so I gave in and ordered Sling with the family pack. Yeah, I am weak.

Next issue is local tv which I am not even sure is worth the hassle. I live in a metal building so the antenna will have to be an outdoor unit. Think I will see how things go for a while. Maybe the wife will forget about Dr. Phil.

So I got a free roku stick with my sling order. I am assuming it is similar to the amazon firetv. Is there a particular reason to use the roku if I have the Amazon device?

Honestly for the $200+ you were spending you can subscribe to just about everything you'd want to stream except the sports or getting stuff day it comes out. If you're willing to spend less than 1/4 of that you could have Hulu, Netflix and HBO Now (plus you already have Prime video) to cover most of the major stuff. You could probably squeeze in Sling with extra sports channels if you want to keep spending some. The biggest change is moving from new stuff once a week to binge when you want. Some of the exclusive self-produced shows are getting better than what I remember seeing on broadcast and cable.

When I cut the cable I also switched from big screen hanging on the wall to watching on laptop and 27" monitor on desktop, so I've never messed with the sticks and "tv" devices.

Plus you can wander into the specialty entertainment stuff like Twitch, Crackle, Funimation, etc.

my bundle deal just ended also. my bill was $240 and this is ridiculous for cable. i have been looking on this thread to try and find a good solution.
i have netflix and like to watch HBO and movie channels.

Think im going to go with Playstationvue. they had a good article about the pros & cons between sling tv and PLaystationvue.

just need a Hd antena for the local.

We've been on PS Vue since August and love it. It is not quite perfect but definitely worth the savings over regular cable. One of the things that I have discovered is that if you have any issue with a recording on PS Vue, you can just about always view it on the "channel's" app. With PS Vue, you can download the channel apps that are in your subscription and login with your PS Vue info.
We were thinking of trying DirecTV Now but the lack of a DVR is a killer for us.

Sooo... I walk into the Cox office today to turn in my boxes. I was greeted by what looked like a Cox trained security guard. Looked like a security guard but seemed to know the procedures and processes of the office very well. The "badge" on his jacket said CS and as far as Icould read, it also said customer service. Could not get a close look.

So I signed in with the kiosk and waited about 30 minutes. Supposedly a bunch of people just walked in. Several were turning in their boxes.

The have this thing where the employee evidently has to shake your hand when they great you. It looks do forced snd uncomfortable. Then when they are done serving you, they walk some of the customers out all the way through the front door. They actually walk onto the sudewslk with you.

Kind of creepy and I could not figure out why just some customers. They did me and at least one other person that returned boxes but I did not notice if the others also returned boxes.

Sadly, the l at time I walked in that office was a few years ago and they were closing. The lady locked the door as I was about 10 feet away. She looked dead at me and turned the key.

Would like to get some feedback on two things:

1. Thoughts between Sling and Vue: I've had Vue for a while and like it, but am considering whether to make the move to Sling. I like the setup thus far and appreciate that I get Fox Sports New Orleans, so no more missing Pels game. I have about a month and a half to decide between the two since I am currently on a free two month promo with Sling right now. For those that have had both, which do you prefer and why?

2. Android TV: Thinking about getting a box for my main TV in the front. Currently have my PS3 set up, but I want something with a little more flexibility. The PS3 is limited and don't have apps like Sling or anything else considered a competitor to PS Vue. The ones that I've looked at (on Amazon) all have KODI installed. Any recommendations?

if you get an Android box, make sure it is not Rooted (if you want Vue). You cannot install PS Vue on a rooted device. I bought an Android box recently from Amazon. great device, but I could not install Vue. it gives an error saying "cannot install Vue on rooted device for security reasons".
I tried unrooting, root cloaking, all of it, to no avail. luckily, I have a Roku tv and can use it for Vue. I had a firestick, but wanted a hardwired box, but the fire tv box is too expensive. the Android box I have works great, and it was only $38.
just something to consider if you go that route.
now, Directv Now installs on there no problem. which, I signed up for the free trial of Directv Now. which ever is better out if directv now or Vue, I will keep..

Edit: I bought the ABox off Amazon, it has Android 6.0.

Grand, I don't have Sling but I do have Vue. The one deal breaker for me with Sling is the lack of a DVR. Do you not use the DVR function much?
