Media Derek Carr is still top ten in QBR this season per ESPN (1 Viewer)

Carr is a good QB but not a great QB if that makes sense. He struggles on mid range throws which is something that should have been worked out in his development stage. He's now a veteran that is possibly reached his max potential. I also question some of the throws that he makes when it comes to protecting his receivers. Not saying he throws hospital balls like MT stated but he sure does put his receivers in rough spot at times. Where does Carr compare to the other QB's in the NFC south division. Is he better than Mayfied and Cousins or even with them? Does Carr have the skills to make the Saints a division winner?
I think it’s very fair to say Carr is a good but not elite QB. Not perfect by any means and some of the criticism of his play is valid

I just want people to give Carr his due and realize that with a few pieces in offense (not mention the all important coaching changes) he can be a winner

And as long as he’s a Saint I’m going to cheer for him to WIN

Some kinda way, non-elite became equated hate and a terrible HC. After 10 + years, we all know who Carr is, but I personally would like us to have an elite QB because the goal should always be to win a championship.

Saints fans are ridiculous spoiled.

Carr is a good to very good QB, Brees was the GOAT.

Carr get so much undeserved hate.

Carr doesn't play great consistently but does have some games where he plays great. Brees was consistently elite.

He has had to deal with too many 300 lb DE coming at him untouched...

There isn't a QB in the NFL that doesn't have "heart pounding" problems when this happens...

Yes, but there are times when there is room to step up in the pocket and he doesn't and there are other times that there is room to run and he doesn't. Carr is a solid starting QB that throws a great deep ball. But, he's also streaky and as Guido said his short and intermediate accuracy isn't great. He's also not great under pressure and that's usually what separated solid from good to great QBs. He's good player, but he's not without flaws and he's at a level where you would like to find an upgrade. You can win with Carr at QB, but you have to have a very good team around him.

Sort of like when people have legitimate criticisms of Shedeur Sanders' game?

Carr and almost any other quarterback who came in were never going to stand a chance with many after many felt Winston never got a fair shot, even though he continuously showed he was no more than a backup quarterback and not many teams had any interest in him.

Not that Carr has been great, but he has been pretty much exactly what we knew he would be. He has played "ok" while playing for what is statistically one of the worst head coaches in NFL history.

There are so many users here who want so badly for Carr to be the cause of the problems with the offense.

I don't understand how they can ignore the o-line play and say that injuries are not an issue on the line.

Carr isn't the problem with the offense, but he's also not perfect. Pointing out that he has issues and you would like a better QB isn't the same thing as saying he is the problem or not recognizing the injury issues.

Come on bruah, unless you're slobbin.. you hatin.. as per usual, the <5% of people that are vocal about something become the face of the entire fanbase to the <5% that feel the opposite.

:cheer:

It’s super popular to hate on Carr among Saints fans this seasons. Even after he threw some brilliant passes this week to beat the Falcons, the team currently leading the NFC south.

My opinion? We as fans are beyond spoiled because we had Drew Brees for so long. Brees is a first ballot hall of famer and the greatest QB the Saints will ever have. It’s not happening again. Comparing Carr to Brees is simply madness.

Compare Carr to actual current NFL QBs. Look at the actual holes on the Saints roster and Carrs resilience is even more impressive. The man threw two TD passes to a WR that came off the street two weeks ago (MVS). Give him some serious credit for that

That's great but my opinion and mine only he need to get past stats. Carr is going to put up his numbers and earn his pay but the path to a Super Bowl is through your division. How many times he won the west with the Raiders. Baker won the south already and Kirk looks on his way to getting one for the Falcons. I roll with Carr ,Haener and Rattler because they're Saints but man if this is it. I don't know. I do hope Carr earn a probowl though.

I agree with you. Playing behind a porous oline and with different and primarily third team wideouts Carr has shined. How many qbs could perform as well under these conditions?

I wasn't commenting on the fan base. But, sure there is a lot of "hate" out there in the fanbase and people think Carr is worse than he is. He's a solid starting QB, he's just not a franchise guy. And guys who aren't franchise guys have flaws. I get that some go overboard on his flaws, but Carr is who he is at this point. No amount of "slobbin" or "hatin" is going to change that.

I think the biggest frustration with Carr is that he is so streaky. He was terrible against Carolina and was very good last week against Atlanta. Some of that was rust against Carolina after being out for so long, but it's also the pattern of his career.

When you had Brees, Brady, P. Manning, and Rodgers all playing at the same time, it was fairly easy to fill out the layer cake-type chart of elites, second-tier, and third- or bottom-tier QBs. It's not so easy now, with those greats all retired now. Mahomes, Burrow and Jackson come the closest to deserving the elite title at present. Allen and Herbert are second-tier. Rodgers is still around but he's about done.

Carr is solidly a second-tier QB, as he's been throughout his career. Fits the MO of second-tier, which is he needs "healthy help" to win consistently. The help hasn't been healthy this year, as seen with the injuries on the o-line and WR.
