I can smell what’s coming after the HC hire (6 Viewers)

How's about we go with this? When the new HC is appointed, we all set aside those natural urges and inevitable feelings about whether they are the 'right' one and treat it as a clean slate.

Two proposals:-

1. Get behind the new HC and support them, at least initially, rather than dwell on the crimes and misdemeanours of the past. Allow ourselves to hope for the future. Even for a little while.

2. Stop the Loomis gripes, just for a while, and remember that one of the benefits of mistakes is the opportunity to learn from them. Let's maybe agree to believe the Saints have learned a little as an organisation and will get back to following the patterns and processes of successful football teams.

I'm no good at motivational speeches, so take this as you will, but there's something about drawing a line under things that have passed and looking forward.

At least for a day or so?

All in on #1.

Can’t get there yet on #2. You cant learn from mistakes when you refuse to acknowledge a mistake has been made.

There is a line of thinking that says Loomis is and has always been just a numbers guy and leaves all the football decisions to the football guys. But then we have him out front making very football specific arguments in favor of Dennis Allen and Derek Carr and others on the roster. He’s gone way outside of the bean counter Lane so he gets to to own the football mistakes too. Personally, I am convinced that we are not going to achieve long-term success again until he has promoted himself onto the golf course.

It really depends on who the hire is. If its a first time coach its much easier for me. Its an unknown and anything can happen. 0-17 or 17-0. But if its an established veteran coach you know what to expect. When we hired Dennis Allen it was reasonable to expect a losing franchise that became a circus because that's exactly what he did in Oakland as HC. With McCarthy, I would expect the team to become a .500 team and occasionally make the playoffs. Rizzi only served as interim but we saw plenty of what he's capable and I would expect a team struggling but more often then not being about a .500 team to start, but he could grow and improve to become more, or regress and become less and keep the circus that Dennis Allen created in tact.

If Loomis hires a first time head coach it will be proof that he has no real plan and is just relying on luck and keeping on chopping wood by doing the same thing to fix this franchise and we are doomed to failure. He just wants to hire a young coach because a young coach won't challenge him and his enormous ego.

If Loomis hires McCarthy it will be proof that he has no vision and won't take chances. All he will do is keep chopping wood and hiring retreads that he already knows because he doesn't want someone who will challenge him and his enormous ego.
Well if he is still chopping wood then he needs to sharpen his axe because the wood is splitting the wrong way!

You're half way there at least.

Maybe now the challenge is to treat Loomis as a symbol of your disappointment, a figurehead only. That way, all you have to do is cast aside such symbolism, and focus on the coach and how they're doing.

That seems to be falling into the trap of deciding whether the choice is the 'right' one. Better to put it aside.

It's better to not put it aside. Almost seems like putting it aside is how the front office decided to hire Dennis Allen. Not putting that hire aside saved me money on NFL Sunday ticket and a lot of time on Sundays watching better games.

People need to stop saying that MM has a higher floor and lower ceiling. It’s just ignorant. When you win a Super Bowl, the ceiling blows up. He’s got no ceiling because he’s done it. The floor (12-5) would be a great place for the Saints to reside. Because right now they are 6 feet under.

I don’t understand your thinking here. If we “know what to expect” with McCarthy, why should we expect significantly worse results than he’s posted in his career, effectively his career worst performances?

Just say you prefer the younger guy. No need to create these odd and false narratives that don’t make any sense to justify it.

Good question. My reasoning is pretty simple. When he went to Green Bay he took over an extremely talented roster with a front office notorious for successful drafts. When he went to the Cowboys he took over a much more talented roster then what we have now. He also had two franchise QB's at both places. Yes, we all tend to think Dak is a bit overrated, but he definitely is and has been much better then Rattler and we simply dont know whats going to happen with Carr.

Even if Carr stays, We have nowhere near the talent either roster had when he started. We also don't have the cap that would allow us to aquire more talent in free agency. I was expect less success to start compared to when he started Green Bay or Dallas. Whether he can work the team up and talent and improve the roster over time is a different question.

He feels like being nonstop pissy and negative about the team, and has since the day I joined this site, and now he’s at the point of bragging about the bottom falling out on the team. “Look y’all, the bottom fell out on the Saints! I was right, our favorite team sucks! Aren’t I the goodest boy?”

I'm trying to move forward but there is the other side of this to consider.....it's called reality......I wanted DA to succeed because it was the only option, I strongly suspected he would fail because he showed us who he was in his 1st season.....I expressed that opinion as many others did, we were met with a lot of BS and gaslighting.....and it went so far as some brainiacs attempting to tear CSP down to make DA somehow look....better....

It was dumb, really idiotic, so no, it's not negativity, it's wanting our team to not stay with a terrible HC and waste years doing so.....

Just like the message board would be boring if we were all realistic/negative it would be just as boring if we were all sunshine pumping gaslighting positive.....it's all part of the adventure that is the Saintsreport message board....

The board wouldn’t be fun if it was nonstop sunshine pumping but this is the internet, I’ve navigated it for decades as a woman, and I can tell you in no corner of the internet would I expect to find a community comprised entirely of optimism and positivity. Conflict is everywhere humanity is.

However there is something to say about balance. If everybody wants to be a realist, what’s the point of fanhood, what’s the point of cheering, what’s the point of coming to the place where the cheering happens and souring the atmosphere? We exert no actual control over the daily operation of the team, yet people will say “I acted negatively for years so the team would do something about their performance” as if, again, there is any capacity to actually impact that. “Realist” isn’t a substitute for vigilante - if a midseason depth chart shakeup or coaching change happens, it is because the people in charge are also unhappy with the results, not because they read fan posts and made a change under duress. Acknowledging that things are bad and hoping they get better, maybe talking about things we’d like to see as agents of change for the better is fun and engaging and sets the stage for the future to be one worth believing in. Miring in despair and trying to bring people to your despairing, and gloating at fans that you called the bad times coming first… like, why are you here?

I thought I pretty clearly stated we need all of these types of folks.....

Vigilante? that's a big dramatic but I will say that if you don't think that the fans negativity at the home games was a factor in Gayle (also the fact that most of Gayle's friends are fans) doing what had to be done (and what Loomis refused to do), then we disagree on that.....

I also find it funny how a few of the folks on this board who haven't been right about anything during the DA regime are suddenly upset with all the negativity....and that's ok to, it's a message board....

Man, everybody needs to take a deep breath, realize that there is absolutely nothing you can control here, relax and go hit up BTL for some boobies and butt pics.
