Inflation here? gas/grocery prices just continue to climb (8 Viewers)

Just did the math yesterday.....at current prices (which I think will go up if anything) our annual VA beach trip hauling the camper would cost $220 more in fuel this year than last. Not life altering difference but enough to feel. Basically we'll skip an eat out dinner and eat at camp instead to break even.
But also, your camp food will cost more, too.

San Francisco gas prices are a nudge from $6.00 a gallon for Regular. You'd think they might offer to suspend the taxes to ease the pain on the consumers? Ouch.

I live in stoopid California and regular unleaded is $5.08 at my local Costco up from $4.35 on Sunday. The lawmakers are talking about a 6 month moratorium on gas taxes of $1.27 a gallon. Meanwhile, in the remote town of Gorda located south of Big Sur, the price of gas hit $7.59 for regular unleaded as of yesterday.

It's absolute madness with no end in sight.

That’s untenable.

This really is unsustainable. I have no idea what the answer is, but these prices can’t continue.
Our politicians could implement some freakin rules that would prohibit corporations and foreigners from buying homes so that the average person has a shot at competing for existing inventory. In Mexico, you cannot buy property there unless you are a citizen. There are ways around that of course but makes things a lot more complex.

Where the hell has everyone been living before? There are all these 'inventory shortages' but since when?

Well if you have commercial property ( and im sure homeowners is having same issue ) in South Louisiana- buckle up for renewal premiums.

I havent seent pricing like this since 2006 ( post Katrina ) and it took 3-5 years to settle down.

Im talking rate increases of 50,70 and in some instances 100-150%.

I dont even want to call these clients because of so few options remaining here.

EDIT: just looked at my Homeowners- went from $1171 to $1802 - no claim from Ida ( or since i bought in 2019 )

That is what, 60% ish??

As a St. Tammany resident, I strongly agree with the moratorium.

One particular St. Tammany water system (Tammany Utilities) is in a horrible state. Many recommended fixes in the past have not been implemented, and current homeowners are getting more vocal in their demands for change. Adding more capacity to an already strained system is a recipe for disaster.
just found out it was 3/4 and it was tabled til next month.

kickin the can...

My broker sounded something between scared and just plain sad when she called to tell me it was time to renew and what our options were. She's a broker and doesn't just represent one company, so she had already done a lot of shopping, and it was bleak.

For the same exact coverage this year, after shopping around, we still went up about 35%. I've never filed a homeowner's claim in 16 years of ownership. This is in South MS.

Property taxes also went way up, so our monthly mortgage payment has taken a significant jump over the last couple of years.

This seems like an appropriate thread to pick up the rising gas price discussion.
My opinion is it will be a momentary pain but for a long term good. We need to stop relying on fossil fuels. Easier said than done right? It has to be done though and there will be pains along the way. Necessity is the mother of invention. Maybe this will finally force us into solving this issue.

My homeowner's doubled from last year - $1,000 increase. I was able to find another company that only ended up being a small increase, but I feel like that's just kicking the can. No claims on this property.

that wont be done in our lifetime. maybe our kids kids. too many items require it currently to not need it.

You're absolutely right. Have we done enough in our lifetime though? I don't think so and money above all else is the reason. When fossil fuel is no longer economically our best option there will be large advances made towards moving away from it.

I too am a "broker" ( but its actually "independent agent" in that we are not "captive" to one carrier- we have multiple carriers to access )

The issue is no competition- we have lost 4 Homeowner markets just from Ida alone. Doesnt sound like much when you hear Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon tell you that we have over 30 homeowner markets in Louisiana.

Well Jim, how many of those are writing coverage south of I10?? Oh you dont know? let me fill you in. Maybe 10 . And of those 10, how many are writing at REASONABLE rates? SIX?

And now 4 are gone.

Leaving 2.

I dont give 2 shirts about carriers writing insurance in West Monroe or Natchitoches because those carriers dont offer coverage here. Makes me mental sometimes lol

EDIT-= These arent EXACT numbers of available carriers- but it aint far from it.
