Inflation here? gas/grocery prices just continue to climb (1 Viewer)

Anyone noticed that the second gas and oil prices started to drop that there are dozens of re-hashed posts about electric car battery prices/pollution, waiting lines for charging, references to coal powered electricity and doom and gloom about moving away from gas? Seemed to hit like a ton of bricks Monday.

All of us will be dead by the time the internal combustion engine is phased out.

That may be so, but the proportion of automobiles burning gasoline is on a steep decline and you only to look at the ever increasing pace of auto manufacturer's announcements.

The new 1200 hp Maserati looks cool. The new Porsche Taycan is cool. The 718 and upcoming 911 are going to be silly cool. That new Ford Pickup is incredible....

But my point was more basic.

Every single time fuel prices go up there is a trained and predictable response that shows pictures of flooded tesla charger stations and warns of the pollution due to batteries. It's similar to the landfill warnings for windmill blades.

I wonder why.

True, we still going before the gas engine. Nuclear is the cu8rrent best answer. The problem is nimby

The other, and what will hold me back from buying an electric truck is that I do use it for week long trips into the back country to go camping. How do I keep it charged and ready to go parked for a week under trees? Sure 400 mile range is great. But when I camp 250+ and am gone for a week, is it going to get me out of there?

Probably not, but you're planning on buying a vehicle for the most extreme flexibility you might need. Most people don't have to worry about spending a week in the shade 250 miles from power.

The Ford I ordered can sit in my office parking lot each night and the young man who drives it never - EVER - drives more than about 100 miles per day. The compressor and generator are going to be extremely handy for him, but we don't have the same needs as you.

My in-laws have a Tesla and a Panamera. They take the Tesla on their trips and never complain, but they do plan their trips around charging stations. In the past 3 years they've been around the country with about 30k miles on the Tesla and maybe 5k on the Porsche. When they buy the replacement for the Porsche they're getting the big Mercedes and not a Taycan because they don't want to have 2 EVs just in case.

All that said, over the next 10 years, EVs will be more popular than gas, but gas and diesel will still be necessary and there's no way I could go without diesel trucks for our work. Hell, I doubt we ever replace diesel cranes and excavators, lulls and skid steers with electricity, but you never know.

Agree, I just don't get why so many people are against nuclear, if you follow science, it is the most dependable, safest and cleanest forms of energy we currently have.

I agree except when you have a madman like Putin taking them over.

Nuclear power plants don't produce the fuel needed for a weapon.

When attacked or sabotaged they don't need to produce a weapon. Chernobyl didn't produce a weapon and neither did the one in Japan, but they caused all sorts of issues.

No, modern plants can't melt down. It's a fact known for many years now. Would I welcome one? Yes. Sadly many don't due to ignorance

Well, they can melt down technically. They just won't in the same way as Chernobyl for the reasons stated in the article. There still could be a Fukushima style accident though, however unlikely.

I do support more investments into nuclear energy though.
