Mickey Loomis’ End Of Year Press Conference (1 Viewer)

I would just say that because of the strategy, which does have some advantages, it takes years to unwind and offset that. I know it's 2024, but it still hasn't been enough elapsed time to fully work off all of that mess.

That said, I'll be curious to see how they work around it this offseason.
It has been years. How long is enough time? When are we going to start seeing signs that they've learned from the mistake of the covid year and start working to prevent another one? I feel like they have not only not even tried to unwind it, they've doubled down on that strategy even though it bit the team badly in 2020.

As long as it takes, unless you want a sheet team for a few years. I mean, that's an option, but I don't think Loomis are anyone else in the building felt like they needed to do a rebuild, but rather just try to keep the train moving.

Now, there's plenty of room to disagree with the strategy, but it is what it is. I think they can make the current roster work with better coaching. The talent is there, and they can continue borrowing from the future to pay for now, but at some point, they may want to reset and that's gonna be painful.

And to be clear, Loomis may be intentional about continuing the strategy, and if that's the case, how many years since isn't really relevant.

He could win every single game next season, and still be 5 games under .500.

He is without a doubt, a bad head coach.

At this point this is Loomis' ego driving the decision to keep him. Loomis cannot accept his own mistake, so he is going to mash his head into the wall until its a bloody mess hoping beyond hope that he can wish Allen into becoming something he isnt so he can look like a genius again.

Loomis is going to drag both himself and the franchise to hades trying to appease his own bravado.
I’ll say this regarding any HC, pertaining to any individual season they have coached.
Every year, a HC/team (if they are any good) has at least 1 game, where it has the feel of a “championship” type game. A game, where unequivocally, your team and coaching decisions, just inserts a monstrous will upon your supposedly even (or greater) opponent. Sometimes you do that a couple or few times a season. Then, you could look at your HC/team, and know that they can go all the way. The last time I saw that with 🦌 at the helm, was when he filled in for SP on Halloween, but that wasn’t “his” team. I can’t say that I’ve felt that kind of energy during a game since, while 🦌 has been HC.

Sales? I guarantee you the my will sellout season tickets again before there’s enough of us actual loyal fans that will still go support our team. We drive over 3 hours from Alabama every week to attend
Prepare yourself for more depressing 3hr rides home next year, too.

Its a production business, you're judged on wins and losses. If you can't judge a coach based on wins and losses then what do you judge him on?

More clear the Saints are a complete nepo franchise and is it any wonder why Payton bolted from this nonsense? 2 years later, do you REALLY believe Payton? I don't, it isn't like he inherited a better team in Denver but one thing he did inherit was a way better ownership situation. That press conference sounded like a guy who KNOWS he has a job for life because if any other GM trotted out infront of a camera like that, with an owner who isn't asleep at the wheel, it wouldn't fly.

I am so sick of the word "culture" Its like all of sports suddenly discovered a new word....
The problem is everyone and their mother using the term.

A team like the Miami Heat for example can use it because they can with 3 conference finals and 2 nba finals appearances in the past 4 years with mostly undrafted guys.

Loomis and these other teams don’t have the recent skins on the wall to be talking about culture.

Yes, I love using a strategy that forces you into a multi year reversal of course... that's even if we change course. A strategy that is "ONLY A PROBLEM" when "unforeseen" events influence the league's budget. (Or a CBA change, really) I must take advantage of this strategy of paying more for less. A strategy that was only supposed to be employed to get Brees a "going away super bowl". Bye Brees... why are we still here?

I suppose I am one of those who does not believe I need to be qualified to be an NFL head coach or general manager--or president of the United States (a general comment not aimed at any one president)--to be critical of the job being done.
You are correct. It does not matter if you played football 9 years of your life and almost went into coaching. it doesn't matter if you are a baker or a mcdonald's burger flipper. All fans have the right to be critical of their team and also have the right to have other fans be critical of their opinions. It's fine... we've been arguing on this site for 20 years.. we will continue to argue for the good of the Saints for 20 more...

All I know is this. There were 2 times in its Saints history, where the Saints fielded an elite unit for a good many years. The Mora's Dome Patrol defense, and the Sean/Drew offense. We didn't win all the time, but we genuinely scared teams. We were the best on one side of the ball or another. Those were fun times. We had swagger, we were on tv a lot and looked good.

I don't see that happening here. A coach either gets buy in from the team, or he doesn't.

Some thing Loomis fails tell you is Chuck Knol, Belicheck, Tom Landry..................weren't handed a (play off) rosters like ours.

Here is my take on the press conference:
  1. Loomis is more unlikeable every time you hear from him. He seems like a pompous jack arse.
  2. I think that the gum thing is a nervous reaction / lie tell. He knows he was spewing a bunch of crap.
  3. The note card act was embarrassing
  4. His comments about the HoF coaches were so flawed:
    1. All of those coaches inherited really bad teams. Allen inherited a team with top 10 talent on both sides of the ball.
    2. He seemed to ignore Allen's first 2 1/4 seasons with the Raiders where he was 8-28. And he acted like these 2 seasons were the first as a HC.
    3. None of those coaches lost their locker room like Allen obviously did
  5. If we lose Harley and / or Ireland, we are screwed because it's clear to me that Loomis is lazy and way too comfortable in his job.
Bottom line for me is that I think Loomis is a clown and he needs to go too if this franchise is going to win again. He lived off the greatness of Payton and Brees.

Sadly, Gayle is just a figure head for this organization and she has given this moron all of the power with no oversight.

They were $100 million over and now they are $80 million over. Mickey has been working on it. Maybe not as fast as the fans want, but that's always the case.

2026…that’s how long it’ll physically take, if they choose to actively work towards it.
