No Way Rizzi can be our HC (2 Viewers)

Drew Brees as GM.

I know it may sound like I'm joking, but I would be shocked if Brees couldn't put together a massive dynasty as GM. The guys knows business very well BUT he knows football 100x more.

The way that guy knows football, knows what players are capable of, can read the field. Just imagine the job he'd do in coaching interviews. It would be good coach after good coach. That's not even getting into the draft. Every other draft would be 2017 all over again (ok, maybe a slight exaggeration but its fun).

Being a great, HoF QB doesn't mean you can be a great or even good GM. Look at Elway. Plus, I doubt Brees wants to work that much at this point in his life. But, maybe once his kids are grown he might think about coaching.

Here's the problem with our current organization structure.

Our former head coach (xCSP) also acted as a GM. He left
Our GM by title is not a football guy...he's a finance guy that when left to make football decisions, they're not very good - see Deshaun Watson debacle
Our Last HC (Allen) was not a good HC but left to make GM-lite decisions because to Our current GM, xCSP was able to make them as well. See DC acquisition / Ceedy trade

To fix this we either need:
a HC that has the clout or experience with making GM level decisions
or
promote Loomis out of the gm position amd bring in a GM who actually knows what a winning football team needs.
Sounds like you are thinking about 2 former SB champion coaches.

Here’s where I see things. The saints don’t have the talent to go head to head with many NFL teams. Due to injury, poor drafting, poor coaching development whatever. So the coaching staff has to pull every trick it can to win. It was pretty clear that the Saints were going for the tie and take it to overtime, as to leave the Rams 3-4 min and a tie game would’ve been an assured loss.

As far as the sloppy play, it needs to be corrected in camp, during the season it’s difficult. Also, the players know they have to take chances. A lunging tackle while looking bad is sometimes over trying. A solid team can stay in lanes, tackle well and still win. Let’s face it we don’t have the talent to do that right now.

I still think Rizzi should be on the short list

I'd rather stick with Rizzi than hire Glenn. I'd rather hire an up and coming offensive minded, young and hungry coach who is a leader of men type like Rizzi is. I'm not sure who's out there who fits that description, but Glenn would be the opposite of that.
I think hiring Glenn or keeping Rizzi you will see a mass exodus in season ticket holders unless Rizz wins out which won’t happen…certainly now with Taysom out.

That's all good...just as long as you don't get mad about trading 2026's 1st to move up 6 spots because we won 4 meaningless games with the playoffs out of reach.
I never get mad about us trading up! It is what it is.

Are the Saints about to become the Texans with the whole David Cooley circus

Hire a guy to loose because no one wanted the job

I have my doubts about a mass exodus for a few reasons.
1. Every franchise has a season like this. You can’t schedule Nichols and South Alabama and soften the schedule to a winning season.
2. The franchise is just too ingrained in the state and region.
Don’t believe me? 90% of the sports coverage here is Saints related year round.
3. Similar to 2, there is no pro competition across multiple states. The Saints are the only game in town from here to Atlanta.

It would be very, very unusual to hire Rizzi as a HC, for reasons discussed to death on this forum.

The side issue is what to do about Loomis as GM. At the end of the season a head coach must be hired, meaning that Loomis would normally be the guy to orchestrate that process. I have no idea what would happen were Loomis to be fired, or even “promoted.” But I know this: that the hiring process should have already started (with apologies for the Paytonspeak). So, if you want Loomis to be fired or “promoted,” there’s a problem because the Saints would need someone else to get the head coaching search arranged, and in earnest immediately after this season mercifully ends.

Yeah, we were always going to lose to the Rams with all our injuries and the talent deficit. I'm honestly surprised that the score turned out that close. And, if they had converted in the redzone in the first half, things might have been different. So, I think Rizzi has earned an interview.

Honestly there is just a part of me that wants a totally new start with a clean slate. And while I like Rizzi, he isn't a fresh start. But if he is the worse case scenario, it's not a bad option and could even turn out to be great.

As a side note, I want to hire whoever does the talent evaluation for the Rams. They just keep hitting in the draft year after year. Nakua, Williams, Verse, Fiske, Speights, etc.
Not only that, the Rams are one of the youngest teams in the NFL. They're definitely doing some things right.

Hard no on Gruden

The other? Not really either...so that really just leaves option 2. Get a real GM
This. Yes, we need to stop being lazy and actually reorganize. It doesn't mean we will succeed, but it can't be worse than now.
