I'll always be in the camp that believes he left because he simply didn't want to coach anymore without an elite QB. Will Nix continue to develop? Time will tell.We as in those who said that Payton's system was too old and antiquated for him to be succesful. I wasn't accusing you are anyone else specifically of having that opinion, but some did have it and they were wrong. A lot of it was probably just Ex-girlfriend syndrome where you hope your Ex-girlfriend isn't happy and successful with her new man.
And full confession, I wasn't sure that he was willing to change his offense when he didn't do it for Hill and Winston. And, I will say that he did not really change the system enough here after Brees retired for mere mortal QBs to run it properly. I think the year off with time to look at his system and adjust it to young QBs or just QBs that were not HoF QBs really helped him once he got to Denver. Over the years it was built around what Brees could do and not many can do those things. He has clearly changed some of those things and added somethings to help Nix have success.
But I never really doubted that he would end up being a good HC in Denver.
