In that articled, they mention RDJ's legal issues as if there is some direct correlation to them hiring him to play Tony Stark as opposed to letting go of Majors over this, but it's apples to oranges. Marvel fired Majors the day he was found guilty (and good for them for not doing it before a verdict was delivered), so it's completely different.
I hope that, like RDJ, he learns his lesson, makes the needed changes in his life, and is able to get back in the graces of Marvel, et al.
