The Science of Fasting (4 Viewers)

what is ACV water and what is the benifits of that and pickle juice. I drink tea without anything in it, coffee and Bubbly waters all day and I do not struggle when I am on my fasts at all.
ACV is said to have lots of benefits. Can lower blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity, can help lower cholesterol and triglycerides, relieve acid reflux. I usually drink 1 Tbls diluted in my first water of the day along with some lemon juice to mask the flavor. No more than 2 Tbls. a day and drink with a straw to protect tooth enamel.

Pickle juice for antioxidants, electrolytes, help with cramping, help with digestion. (no more than a shot is what I've been told. It's not like you're drinking 8 oz.). And I just was told this helps some people with cravings when trying to fast and having trouble so that's why I'm willing to try it. Although at 24 hours, it's not the cravings that do me in necessarily, I just MISS EATING at that point.

I've discovered another fast. The Stress Fast. I've eaten a total of two pieces of pizza and some pasta salad since Monday morning. I just realized this today. I just haven't been hungry at all. At least I've been drinking water throughout this time.

Fasting for Ash Wednesday, not only for the religious angle but to give me extra motivation to go beyond the 18-hour mark which is where I falter. Nothing but water since dinner last night so I'm about to my "danger zone". I am drinking a LOT of water, so get out of my way.
Have you considered breakfast to breakfast? I do that one a lot. I like it because I’m skipping the two biggest meals of the day and because I’m asleep during the 2nd half of the fast, when I may be most interested in eating. A high fiber, protein rich sandwich of 21 grain bread, a slice of cheddar cheese, and two fried eggs stays with me for a while and make the hunger period nice and short leading into supper time, when I won’t be eating but will still be sitting with the family at the table.

Yeah, the "when to when" is a big part of it. I was never a breakfast eater except on weekends, so when doing OMAD during the week, skipping breakfast and only eating at dinnertime works for me usually so I can go 16 to 18 hours easy and then just break my fast slowly. I've tried to eat breakfast and it just makes me hungrier throughout the day.

Pretty sure Walmart usually carries pickle pops, sometimes in the not frozen form.
Yep, got some. Thanks for the tip. Had my first one. Not bad, really.

Pickle juice can help replenish your sodium levels, which are key when fasted or doing low carb. You'd be surprised how 1000mg of sodium will make you feel. I've used it as a pre-workout.

But too much, and you're in the bathroom for a while.. ?

Interesting article which reports on the benefits of TRF (time reduced feeding). Studies are showing that the body can adapt to the eating time window and the shorter windows when calories are held constant yield improved weight loss.

Finally circling back around to losing again. Got off the bandwagon for a good while. Dropped about 4 #'s since Friday with just doing OMAD and supplementing with bone broth.

Started using cronometer to track my macro's and am disturbed by what I'm seeing on my micros. Guess it's time to take a better look at my nutrition and maybe take some vitamins. I've just read so much from vitamins are great to they make expensive urine.

Oh well, my pants are getting loose and I need to stop and get a smaller belt on the way home.

And ugh, keto breath is disturbing once you're not used to it again.

Heck I just lost 25 lbs and wasn’t even trying. Hoping it’s not a permanent diet, called pre death.

Went from a 38 to a 32 waist, one month. Going to try my best to put some weight back on, and if I can’t I’ll start trying to make peace with my maker.

Good luck to all of you trying to lose weight and such. My dieting secret was to get very sick.

Very sorry about your circumstances. Best of luck and glad you have a good sense of humor about it. I've barely contemplated my mortality until recently.

I got a mailing from a local cemetery trying to sell me a plot and the Dr got concerned when I had a cough.

Nothing near what you are seeing though. Just hope you can live well for as long as possible.

Thanks. I’m still hopeful it’s temporary and I shall be able to get thru. Totally understand about not contemplating mortality, I hadn’t either until the last year. Funny how life works.

I wish you good health too.

Doing a Lenten fast at this time - about 65 hours into it at the time of this writing (Tuesday at 6pm last eats). Almost buckled last night but went to bed early to escape the temptation. I'm in a stronger mode today. Not sure how long I'll go. I'd like to do a minimum of 4 days.

Last night to help me with my willpower I went to rewatch The Science of Fasting on Prime (for about the fourth time). I couldn't find it on Prime (it's still on YouTube). While looking for it I found a 1:20 documentary simply called Fasting.
Amazon product ASIN B07DPTTVG1
It wasn't as good and if I had watched this one first, I'd have been more skeptical about fasting. The Science of Fasting was much better, IMO. I couldn't shoot any holes in it and I tried. And this video at times came across very infommercial-like. Fasting did have the Italian biologist at USC from TSofF, Valter Longo. I like him.

This documentary is broken into 7 parts about different fasting methods - Time-Restricted Feeding, Intermittent and Prolonged Fasting, Long-Term Water Fasting, Religious Fasting, Eating Disorders, Improvising or Fasting Unsafely, Fasting Mimicking Diet, and Juice Fasting.

I did get some new nuggets of info:
- I learned more specifics about the body's circadian rhythm. I'm a breakfast skipper, which is good, but a notorious late night eater. I'm going to work on that.
- There are some unsafe clinics conducting long-term water fasting and some of the dangers of unmonitored long-term water fasting.
- Fasting Mimicking Diet was new to me and the product ProLon. I'm going to do more homework on it. Quick look is pricey - $250 for a five-day kit.

It's worth a watch, but production quality and scientific explanations lacked, IMO. A lot of interesting case studies.

All right, almost time to power through the lunch temptation. ?

Good info SB. I’m starting mine back up too. I’ll check out the prime doc for inspiration.
my diet in the last year has gone from semi-fasting to mmm hamburger and fries.... 5-7 days out of the week.
