Haener starts vs Commanders: 1 INT, 5 punts ; Rattler replaced Haener in 2H: led to 19 points (4 Viewers)

Some people want to blame the OL but he fumbled twice on the same play in embarrassing fashion, threw terrible INTs and just made bad decisions countless times. Yes the OL was bad and gave him some pressure, but even with a clean pocket he still made terrible decisions.
He needs more time in this league, but the first impression wasn't good.

Unfortunately, there's more. Sometimes he did have a pocket to throw in and made throws. Sometimes good, sometimes awful. And sometimes the decision on who to throw to was bad. Sometimes he had a WR to throw to and he hesitated, and coverage sank down on the receiver and he was no longer a good option to throw to (missing the read entirely).

DA didn't do that guy any favors with the conditions of starters, but it was very, very clear that SR isn't close to ready yet. It wasn't much better than Ian Book. A couple of years has the potential to settle him down and make improvements because unlike Book, SR does have some traits that he can use to move the ball. He may be better off doing what Kyle Murray used to do. 1 read and run if the pass isn't there. Over a few years he should be able to add it to two reads as he grows.

I like Jake.... But his obvious ceiling in the NFL is a "serviceable backup".... and since the team thinks they can still win something this year (delusional)... I can see why they would go with the serviceable backup....

I just think this is pointless (exception : Rizz wants to win so he can be HC next year - which is also bad long term for us)....

Spencer has the obvious ceiling of a NFL starter, and seeing him behind a healthy Oline the rest of the season so we can determine if he can be that (or if we need to draft a QB fairly high)... Is way more important than being competitive this week, or seeing Jake do what we know he can do (be a serviceable backup).

I couldn't care less who's ready now... we probably aren't winning this game (or any other outside of LV) with Carr at QB... I want to know if we have a QB of the future with NFL franchise QB talent... and we only have one guy with that talent level... it ain't Jake.

So... Geaux Jake... I guess... I guess there always a chance I am completely wrong (not likely) and he goes full on Drew Brees... Here's to holiday miracles!

LOL and SR had Olave , Shaheed and Taysom , all JH has in MVS a gut we got off the street a few wks ago SMH
Rattler didn't have all them. Olave got hurt on the first play of the Tampa game, missed the Broncos game on a short week and came back for the Chargers game. Shaheed played the Tampa game got hurt and has missed the rest of the games, and Taysom missed Tampa and Denver games and came back for the Chargers game. Add that with playing with 3 - 4 string guards and centers and playing 3 games in 10 days and don't forget the Bucs had 10 days off before they played the Saints. So who did he have again?

The biggest negative also happens to be the one that typically cannot be coached- pocket presence. Rattler had no feel for the pocket, similar to Aaron Brooks. Always retreating instead of navigating the pocket like great QBs do (Brees, Mahomes and Montana are the best 3 I've ever seen do it). Pocket presence is mostly an enate skill, either a QB immediately has great pocket awareness or he never develops it.

It's not really that big of a deal either way, not really worth arguing over. Rattler had some run, albeit with abysmal offensive line, but I think its fair to let Haener put some tape out there regardless of our offensive line circumstances. You could argue that Rattler had better receiving options when he was out there. I don't think it's an indictment on Rattlers play, just likely a chance to let Haener show something.

All I know is that regardless of how Haener performs, the Rattler supporter’s will have their mental gymnastics to say he is the future and so will the Haener supporters… the two opposing sides are entrenched against one another.
I am only 42. I do remember the Mora days and everything after, but some of that I was too young I guess to honestly know about all the stuff we know about as we play and learn the game.

Was it always like this? I remember the controversy over Aaron and Jake bc of Aaron having the hurt shoulder. Hasslet wouldn’t sit him and it cost us the playoffs. Was there that much divide then amongst fans and I was just young and oblivious?

It seems like since Winston came along this all really took off. Like some feel there has to be sides. As if we must be on one side or the other, in the corner of one QB or the other.

Then often times it gets worded like this like it’s a divide. It’s ridiculous, at least to me. Now don’t get me wrong, there are a few out there that want things to go their way for their own personal agenda, but I can almost guarantee that the far majority just want the saints to win and teams to cover their bets 🤣

Again, SR had Olave for less than a quarter, I think Shaheed got hurt in his first game, and Taysom was out for all but the Chargers game. MVS may be the 2nd best WR on the team even if Shaheed was healthy. So their weapons are more or less even and Haner has a much better OL to work with.

Haener also has one more year in the NFL, one more training camp, and one entire offseason working with Gruden. I would certainly expect Haener to be further along than Rattler at this point and I would expect him to play better than Rattler. He probably gives you the best chance to win this game. But, I still tend to think that Rattler has more upside.

The Brooks vs. Delhomme war was over the top crazy. People totally dug in. Much worse than we have seen since.

I thought Haener looked better than Rattler in their relatively brief appearances earlier this season. One thing he’s going to need is better WR play. I saw too many drops of very catchable balls the last time Haener played.
