Ryan Clark Calls Sean Payton a Thug (1 Viewer)

Wilson simply isn’t that good of a QB in a structured system. He needs to free lance, draw people to him when he is a threat to run, and throw little soft lob passes against man defense. He has been a huge overachiever in his career and got too much credit for Seattle’s success.
Ryan Clark has something against Payton. He was constantly throwing jabs at us and trolling us the whole year of the No Call. Flat out antagonizing us. Making fun of the dome and the fan base. Just completely over the top. I don’t like him. Last night VanPelt was saying all of this is because Payton doesn’t like Wilson and never has. Says Payton is trying to take the blame off of himself and out it all on Wilson. Completely ridiculous. That team has done some really impressive and unexpected things this season and the Broncos regretted their deal with Wilson long before Payton was even a possibility to be their coach. This is strictly business and not personal or racial and those accusations I find disgusting.

Regardless of whether you think the shows are idiotic, it's still uncharacteristic for someone in Clark's position to say what he said. Sports analysts are not hurling personal insults at coaches and players on a regular basis like that, which is why everyone else on the set got quiet after he made that comment. Saying he's playing a role is beside the point. Ryan crossed the line as a professional, in my opinion.

I find it utterly ridiculous that folks take these shows that seriously....like the NFL, it's entertainment, nothing more.....

And there are very few real "sports analysts" anymore, mostly just overblown, overexposed "media personalities".....

OMG, did you here what Stephen Smith said? Or all those controversial takes on The Herd?

When the "personalities" become the story it's no longer about analyzing sports.....

This is what people don’t understand. He’s an alpha in the mold of a Bill Parcells. You see these jokers now like the cat in Miami. Payton’s old school. He’s going to do what’s best for him and his team. Does not care one lick about an individual or their feelings or what the media thinks of him for that matter.

Great post....totally agreed....

Colston clearly established himself as WR1 . In addition to Colston, the Saints were establishing themselves at the league's top offense with WRs named Terrence Copper and Jamal Jones during Joe's injury.

Let's not act like Payton immediately strolled in and drew a line in the sand with Horn (the way he basically did with Stallworth). It took a lot of things going right before that happened.
So.... exactly what I said? cool...

That's not being woke tbh.
I know it looked ugly and I felt bad for Russ, I truly did. But this isn’t an issue if they are winning. If they were winning it would be viewed as, “wow, this team is dialed in, they are freaking determined to win. They are perfectionists, etc etc.“. But because they are losing it’s hurt feelings city. I’m acknowledging the hypocrisy while choosing not to be a hypocrite. It’s an unfortunate truth that winning makes you look past some obvious points of criticism. Just for the record, I don’t see a racism angle here. So with that said, is it always wrong for one leader to yell at a subordinate? Will the subordinate always be right in this scenerio? Or can there be a situation where a leader shakes down a subordinate and it be a good thing in the long run. Thats what I’m seeing here. We all know SP. We know he’s not HATING Russ, we know that Sean is a perfectionist, and Russ isn’t living up his plan. They hired and believe in SPs plan. If he were back with the Saints, we’d all be in favor of SPs plan. So this fact would make us all hypocrites if we complain about how he handled Russ, while implementing his plan.

With Payton we probably would've had the division locked up weeks ago.

We still wouldn't be a great team, but we should have easily won the division considering the other teams.
But what if he shook down Carr like he did Russ, while we’re winning and headed to the playoffs. Honestly admit whose side you would be on.

I like Sean as a coach but anyone that believes he is handling this the right way is not looking at this objectively. He literally has been shyttin on Russell since he got there in the offseason. Then he goes into the presser and says, Im paraphrasing, well I can't cut 5 OL, I can't cut the WRs, so but it about winning. Russell is the least of the issues he has to deal with. His RB Williams has not performed and his speedy WR Jeudy is not as advertised, not to mention his sub-par OL.

That IS Sean Payton.

That IS Sean Payton.

Remember, that choke gesture was premature and the Vikings won anyway. Karma came for him.

Just a little less of the Alpha egomaniac would serve him better. He undermines himself in big moments. Maybe distracted by that wheelbarrow he needs to carry his testes around with…

I think at some point.. Sean Payton broke.. then Sean Payton developed an ego... and that ego drives him that in his mind he KNOWS what he wants to make a team thats Superbowl ready.. but he just wants someone to give him everything that he wants.

Example when we had Tom Benson.. he probably said.. hey you get whatever you want and we will make it happen.

somewhere we went from that model to the model of "Money Ball" where we played the numbers.

example.. we couldve had Suh and likely collected that 2nd superbowl.. that Rams team doesnt make it past the Saints without Suh.. and we likely win it all with Suh.
but..... we crunched the numbers and said.. this is what we are going to pay you...

well that model is dead.. and we still think its the model that our organization thrives on.. we picked the wrong head coach and we aren't big dogs in the league anymore..

and the organization just cant accept that our best years are behind us until we can create something new... we arent going anywhere..

we gotta get rid of that model..

Sean Payton is a victim of his own success in which he wont accept his way is the only way the team should go.
We are the victims of Sean Payton’s success. Sean got paid. And we’re stuck with afterbirth lol

He’s still playing like one of the best when the pocket breaks down (6th in ANY/A), but Payton wants a QB who can run his offense (Wilson ranks 22nd in ANY/A when not pressured).
I thought the real good coaches cater the scheme to the PLAYERS, not make players FIT what the coach wants to do Sean.

Which is it, objectively?

I think ESPN is just angry Sean didn’t pick Dallas.

Nah, a lot of this hate goes all the way back to Bountygate. Nobody cared when he was with the Saints in a small market. Now that he is with a more media-focused franchise, everybody has an opinion to share.

I said this back in July before the season started. I'll quote my post below...

Ryan Clark sounds like he has an axe to grind. Stop acting like we all didn't hear about what was going on with Russ in the Broncos organization before Sean Payton got there. Sean Payton needed to set the tone to change a terrible culture that was taken advantage of by a washed up, overpaid, prima donna of a QB.
I like Russ, but his time has passed. However, it’s not his fault that he generated a ton of expectations. So for people to be disappointed that’s on them for not having more realistic expectations.
