Beat me to it. I'll add that Peyton Manning played the first 11 years of his career under defensive-minded coaches, he also turned out OK. Both of his Super Bowl wins were with defensive-minded coaches.

Matt Ryan played practically all of his career under defensive coaches. He may not be the first name that comes to mind as one of the best to play, but he was certainly a franchise QB (that also played in a Super Bowl, losing after building a 28-3 lead).

There are plenty of examples, I think we're biased towards the HC/QB pairing here because of what we saw with Payton/Brees.

What do you base your opinion that probability says its highly unlikely? What numbers support that position?

We just gave you 3 or 4 HoF QBs, one that is arguably the GOAT, that developed under defensive head coaches. And at least three of them won Super Bowls with their defensive HC in charge. And one of them won 7 Super Bowls. And Matt Ryan would have one if they had not blown a 28-3 lead to another QB that was developed by a defensive HC.

Same. Prefer offense, but the right guy is the right guy. I just dont know about Glenns track record. His defenses havent been exactly the Steel Curtain.

My hope is that Glenn has other teams serious about hiring him, giving him negotiation chips in his pocket. He knows how Loomis operates. If we arent going to fire Loomis, we need to find ways to wrestle as much control as we can from him. If Glenn has other suitors, he can say he wants full control over his staff hires. Allen had no other suitors, or interviews. He either took the job under Loomis' conditions, or he could go look for work elsewhere as a DC.

I think Loomis had too much control over Allen. Allen wouldnt have been successful regardless, but I would like for the next HC to have more control over his team from the staff to the draft.

I guess that is the slippery slope in that, Loomis can hire another dolt like Allen simply because he can maintain control.

I fully expect a curveball from Loomis.

Really hope we pass on Glenn, I would like to see a whole new different approach to the future of the team. Glenn (who is a fine coach) isn't what we need. We need someone who is new to the organization and won't be afraid to voice his opinion on things.

Nothing against Glenn personally or professionally ( as he has proven he can produce as a position coach and a coordinator. If he does get the job I hope he gets rid of Joe Woods and hires a new coordinator,we don't need another HC that also doubles as our d coordinator.

We will see,whoever it is I will support but I would rather have a offensive minded HC. I would rather have Rizzi than Glenn.

Theres this as well. Im not real sure how Glenn came to be part of the HC landscape this year. His defenses havent been elite, and borderline average. It feels like Detroit is in a barnburner every week. They also have the most man games lost this season, so factor that in.

They were terrible when he took over and have become good. The stats this year are reflective of a lot of injuries and despite those injuries they are still a good defense.
