Things That Make You Feel Old (2 Viewers)

Exactly!

I've done that to my toe, last May, still hurts.

Go in the gym, bench press, mysteriously a week later, I have a pain in my left chest that radiates to the back. Sporadically, a pang kicks in. No, not a heart attack because when I flex, it hurts, hence the muscle strain. But it's been six weeks and counting of what the H-E double hockey sticks is going on??!!

What took two weeks to heal now takes five months.......
I had something like this and was told it was due to a build-up of lactic acid (which has been debunked). I am just old and it hurts.

When you’re on your daily run, which you’ve been doing for years now, and your big toe on your right foot starts hurting like crazy. You figure maybe you stepped poorly and it will just be sore for a few hours. Then those few hours turn into days. Then you think maybe you sprain something or even tore a ligament, so you get with your doc for a consult.
After testing, a sprain, tear, break, and even gout are all ruled out.
Dude you have arthritis in your right, big toe. Here, rub some Voltaren(tm) gel on it and good luck. Nothing else can be done.
Trust me... the medical profession is making a fortune simply because when people approach the age of 60 they start feeling new aches & pains that convince them something is seriously wrong with them. So they reach out to doctors to get the problem 'fixed'. Rather than explain to these patients what is really happening to them, the doctor(s) will instruct them to schedule appointments with them every 2 to 3 weeks for the rest of their of their life... or as long as the health insurance holds out; whichever comes first.

The rest of your life is spent convincing yourself that all these doctor visits are worth it because you are doing better than a lot of people your age. All the while your doctor is scheduling you for every test that is even remotely covered by your insurance & prescribing every pill designed to treat your particular symptom(s) with the goal of finding one with side effects that aren't quite as bad as the problem you originally came in with.

People just can't accept that the issues you have is the price of getting old. And very few of those issues are actually 'fixable'. No doctor can save your life. They can only postpone your death. BTW- after a few trips to the doctor, I gave up on getting my big toe fixed.

It wasn't a subungual hematoma? I got one on vacay and wasn't sure whether it was cos I stubbed it or from all the walking but it was tender as hell. Didn't know till I got home and removed my toenail polish that the nail bed was all black from the blood. The tenderness went away and the nail eventually fell off (ooohhhhhh) and took better part of a year to grow back.

Hey Marsha - no, and I kinda wish that was it because you recovered and you’re currently pain-free in the toe. I don’t wear nail polish anymore now that my daughter is an adult and no longer insists on practicing on me vs. her mom, so no blood. I think the doctor is correct about arthritis, which sucks, but I’m living with it. (y)

My dad used to keep a very tiny drill bit for such occasions. If you catch it right away and let the blood out, pain is gone. I slammed my index finger in the car door once and he heated up his little tool and went to work on the nail, it took a while and I had to lay down once before I passed out, not from the pain but because it was a freaky feeling.
Sorry for the visual, it gives me the willie's just thinking about it.

Yeah, I decided no one's drilling a hole in my nail.

To piggyback on this:

When you realize that you are older than many of the parents/adults in your favorite childhood movies and TV shows

Driving in the car with the kids earlier this evening, heading to do a few things on a Friday evening, when my son is playing a Tik Tok and I hear a song that I recognize. I asked, "Is that Ace of Base?" He said, "Yep, how did you know that?" I said, "Son, that song is about 30 years old." I then realized I'm even older than the song.

But a lot more advancements and life style changes happened between 37-80. Besides cell phones, technology and social media, what really changed between 80 and 23...?
