Payton coached the Saints from 2006-21, leading them to their only Super Bowl triumph after the 2009 season. His New Orleans teams had just two losses at home by 20 points or more, something the Saints have already done twice this year.

“It was hard coming here because there were so many of those memories. I tried to downplay it best I could but it’s about the players. And they played their tail off,” Payton said. “And I felt bad, New Orleans is nicked up, got a lot of injuries.”

With Saints quarterback Derek Carr (oblique) missing his second straight game, there were rookies under center for both teams. ...

The New Orleans Saints continue to have players fined this season, as defensive tackle Nathan Shepherd was fined $11,817 for unnecessary roughness against Justin Herbert when he attempted to tackle him by the legs while the ball was already out of his hands. This tackle attempt was most definitely not a good look, and the fine is within reason considering the circumstances. In addition to this, Los Angeles Chargers center Bradley Bozeman, who jumped onto Shepherd in defense of Herbert, was not fined for this situation.

The Saints have had quite a few fines this season, including Alontae...

The New Orleans Saints injury bug bites again, this time we see Kendre Miller once again with another hamstring injury, the third of his short NFL career to date. This new hamstring injury, separate from the one he suffered in July of this year, has forced the Saints to place Miller on injured reserve, meaning he will miss an additional four weeks. It isn’t the same leg he injured last time.

This also means he will miss 10 of the first 12 games of the 2024 season, and 19 total (since being drafted) by the time he is able to return, assuming he only misses the next four games.

The Saints...

Health has been one of the New Orleans Saints biggest enemies this season. New Orleans has been on the losing side of that battle for the majority of the season.

The injury bug doesn’t discriminate with the timing of the injuries either. The Saints have suffered injuries in game and in practice. The latter is making Dennis Allen switch their practice routine.

The most notable injuries such as Derek Carr, Erik McCoy and Chris Olave happened in live action. Pete Werner, however, missed three games with a hamstring injury he suffered in practice. Kool-Aid McKinstry is missing the Carolina...

They placed RB Kendre Miller (hamstring) and WR Bub Means (high ankle sprain) on IR, signed RB Jordan Mims, CB Shemar Jean-Charles, and S Millard Bradford to the active roster off the practice squad, and waived OL Kyle Hergel.

Recently signed CB Tre Herndon and S Roderic Teamer have been called up from the practice squad for Sunday’s game in Charlotte, given that starting CBs Marshon Lattimore and Kool-Aid McKinstry have both been ruled out with hamstring injuries. Combined with...

The New Orleans Saints have quite the list of roster moves ahead of their Week 9 matchup with the Carolina Panthers, including a few players moving to injured reserve, promotions to the active roster from the practice squad, and a downgrade in status. These moves are unfortunately mostly moves to try and fill out spots left behind by injury, as the Saints continue to deal with a litany of injuries despite overcoming many of them prior to last week’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Here are all of the additional roster moves the Saints made prior to their Week 9 game:
