By Dean Mullen

Make no mistake, Taysom Hill has to feel pretty good going into the 2018 season. He will undoubtedly have to beat out Tom Savage to win the backup job. Also, with the acquisition of J.T. Barrett, it’s likely to be a battle for that backup position. Nevertheless, Hill has the coaches’ eyes and some experience being with the team for a solid year.

The fact that the Saints didn’t select a quarterback, has to instill some confidence in Hill. Surely, Who Dat Nation was salivating in round one, when the Saints traded up to move to the 14th overall pick. The thought was that the Saints were going to pick a quarterback. That’s the usual scenario when a team moves up and gives up a couple of draft picks.

New Orleans listed 17 players on their injury report including their star wide receiver duo of Rashid Shaheed and Chris Olave who were both absent. Tight end Taysom Hill began practicing for the first time since his week four injury against the Atlanta Falcons. Safety Tyrann Mathieu was a full participant after missing the end of last week’s loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tuesday’s updated New Orleans Saints injury report doesn’t look much different from what the team listed on Monday, but there are a couple of positives we should note as the team prepares for their Thursday night kickoff with the Denver Broncos.

Starting defensive end Carl Granderson (neck) was upgraded to full participation from limited reps on Monday (had the team practiced; remember, they only held a walkthrough since it’s a short week). On top of that, veteran guard/center Lucas Patrick (chest) was able to practiced on a limited basis after the training staff estimated he would’ve...

It’s Week 7 and we find the New Orleans Saints (2-4) back home in the dome and in a primetime matchup against the Denver Broncos (3-3) and a very familiar face, Sean Payton.

Payton return comes a little over 2 years after he stepped away from coaching the Saints and taking a year off before returning to the NFL, as the coach of the Broncos.

This game was one that has been circled on the calendar since the schedule was released, as Payton returns to New Orleans to face his former team, and now that former Saints QB Drew Brees in also being inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame Thursday...

State of the NFC South: Division standings going into Week 7

The New Orleans Saints have now lost four consecutive games, and it’s getting worse by the week. What started as a promising season feels dead in the water. Close losses to the Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons have turned into the Tampa Bay Buccaneers putting up 50 points.

The worst part is this four game losing streak featured two divisional losses. It’s only a two game deficit, but it’s hard to see New Orleans recovering unless something turns around quickly.

Here’s where the NFC South stands after Week 6:

The New Orleans Saints didn’t trade for Davante Adams, but another veteran wide receiver was spotted in the No. 17 jersey at their Tuesday practice session. Former San Francisco 49ers second-round draft pick Dante Pettis signed with the practice squad and cornerback Shemar Jean-Charles was let go in a corresponding roster move.

Pettis, 28, played college football at Washington before entering the 2018 NFL draft. He played a bit part in San Francisco, catching 71 passes in 50 games for 984 yards and 12 touchdowns, before later spending time with the New York Giants and Chicago Bears. His...

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints have been on a downward slide for about a month now.

Injuries haven’t helped, but a four-game losing streak has coaches reexamining and reevaluating almost everything.

“Everybody needs to look at themselves — coaches, players, everybody — and make sure we’re doing everything we possibly can to get this thing going in the right direction,” Saints coach Dennis Allen said. “Right now, it’s not where we want it to be.”

The Saints were brimming with optimism after two head-turning, lopsided victories against Carolina and Dallas to open the season. In...

Saints improve the NFL's worst defense in this 2025 mock draft

No NFL team has given up more yards this season than the New Orleans Saints (2,375), and while much of that has been due to a surprisingly porous pass defense (1,573 yards allowed, third-most), plenty of blame should go to a run defense that’s been a weakness throughout the Dennis Allen era. The Saints are allowing 5.2 yards per carry, second-worst around the league.

So how do they fix it? This 2025 mock draft has a suggestion. Draft Wire’s Curt Popejoy has the Saints picking Michigan’s big defensive tackle Kenneth Grant at No. 9 overall. He may be just who they need next to Bryan Bresee...

Dennis Allen's Saints rank last in total defense through 6 weeks

The New Orleans Saints have given up over 1,000 yards over the course of the past two games, and now there’s no team in the NFL who gives up more yards per game. The Kansas City Chiefs game was bad, but the way the Tampa Bay Buccaneers dismantled Dennis Allen’s unit was a special type of beating.

Yardage has been an issue for the Saints’ defense. It was masked by the fact New Orleans played “bend but don’t break” defense. The lack of points scored against the team has held off some criticism. That can no longer be done after seeing 50 points on the scoreboard.

The Philadelphia Eagles...
