Mark Ingram was suspended for the first four games of the 2018 regular season after the National Football League determined the running back had violated their performance enhancing drugs policy, depriving the New Orleans Saints of one half of what last season was the league’s best scoring running back duo.

Not only with Ingram’s absence cost a great deal to the Saints’ chances to repeat as NFC South champions and as the NFL’s most productive backfield, but the suspension will also have a great personal financial cost to the player himself.

Originally set to earn a base salary of $4 million to play in the 2018 season, by virtue of his being absent for a full quarter of the regular season, Ingram will also lose approximately $1 million in money. According to Spotrac’s calculations, the entire amount runs up to $1.27 million when counting for salary and bonuses.

The New Orleans Saints started their coaching search as soon as the season ended. It seemed like this process would be drawn out but with the potential of many candidates interviewed throughout. After their last interview with Aaron Glenn on January 10th, the process slowed down a bit, and fewer interviews were being scheduled, even with candidates the Saints had an interest in. Today, per Jonathan Jones, the Saints are set to resume the head coach process and interview Joe Brady and Darren Rizzi.

Due to Joe Brady and the Buffalo Bills still competing in the playoffs, his interview will...

The Detroit Lions have arguably the two hottest candidates in this years coaching cycle, Aaron Glenn and Ben Johnson. The two men have shared the sidelines for the last three years since Dan Campbell came over from the New Orleans Saints to take over the Lions. Johnson was a smart holdover from the previous regime.

Johnson and Glenn have had a lot of time to get to know each other, and Johnson delivered a strong endorsement of his fellow coordinator. Johnson told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport Glenn is “more prepared to be a head coach than maybe, anybody I’ve ever met.”

It seems Johnson...

Why are all of the New Orleans Saints head coach interviews so far just online video chats? The Saints have spoken with multiple candidates including Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn and his Miami Dolphins counterpart Anthony Weaver, as well as New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka, but all of those discussions have been held virtually.

That’s because NFL rules dictate that interviews with all coaches currently under contract with other teams must first speak with the team virtually. So candidates like Glenn, Weaver, Kafka, Joe Brady, and Kellen Moore can get on...

This could be big. The New Orleans Saints are interviewing two head coach candidates Friday, including hotshot Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady and their own interim head coach Darren Rizzi. The news was first reported by CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones.

Rizzi is said to have a lot of support in the building, and he has tight bonds to the coaches who have led two of the NFL’s biggest cultural turnarounds in recent years — Dan Campbell with the Detroit Lions (who Rizzi coached with on the Miami Dolphins, and again in New Orleans) and Sean Payton with the Denver Broncos, who brought...

Yaccarino: Saints 3-round mock draft

The New Orleans Saints season was rocky, and the roster is in a worrying spot going into the offseason. Veteran players are getting very close to retirement, some of the young talent has had a disappointing season, and the roster is missing talent. With the current cap situation the team is in, free agency will not be a place where the Saints find significant upgrades, so that leaves the NFL Draft as the only option. The prospect rankings are still very fluid and depending on who the next Saints head coach is, specific prospects may be prioritized higher than others. However, with the...

Another option just opened up for interim New Orleans Saints head coach Darren Rizzi. Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos fired their special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. The Broncos finished in the top half of the league for yards allowed on both punt returns (251) and kick returns (604), but they were tied for the sixth-highest average of yards per punt allowed (48.7) and gave up the second-most punting yardage (3,849). Only the Cleveland Browns were worse. Clearly that wasn’t good enough.

Rizzi is interviewing for the Saints’ full-time...

In addition to the coaching cycle, the future of quarterbacks around the NFL is a common offseason topic. For some quarterbacks, like Kirk Cousins, a new home is likely on the horizon.

Then you have quarterbacks who are entering a critical year and are considered to be on the hot seat. Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton has a list of quarterbacks on the hot seat in 2024, including Derek Carr.

The interesting thing about Carr’s hot seat is he may not even be on that seat for long. Mickey Loomis told the media the next head coach would make the decision on Carr’s future in New Orleans...

The New Orleans Saints head coaching search has been underway for a bit now and a couple of names have become synonymous with the job, such as Mike McCarthy or Aaron Glenn.

While there isn’t an exact consensus by Saints supporters on who they want the choice to be, one thing is clear. They want change.

That the focus on a recent exercise completed by CBS Sports writer Josh Edwards. He put all of the current head coach openings in the NFL to find out which new hire would be the opposite of the old head coach. The opposite of Dennis Allen was considered to be McCarthy, a current favorite...

The New Orleans Saints are one of the teams still looking for a new head coach and are also considered to be one of the least-desirable jobs in the market.

With some top options potentially looking elsewhere, knowing they could potentially land at an easier spot, the Saints could be forced to look at one of the less sought-after coaches this cycle.

Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport found someone that fits that bill, but is also very promising. He recently searched for an underrated head coach candidate for each team that would be a great fit. For New Orleans, he decided on Houston Texans...
