They came away with the best player at their most important position of need in Oregon State right tackle Taliese Fuaga, a Day 1 starter with Pro Bowl potential (and who has made a big fan in future Hall of Fame offensive lineman Jason Kelce). The New Orleans Saints drafted Alabama cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry in the second round a few days ago, which led to speculation that Marshon Lattimore may be the target in trade talks with other teams. However, according to general manager Mickey Loomis, this is most definitely not the case, and the Saints are not currently looking to trade Lattimore at all.

They say it takes one to know one, so an endorsement from a seven-time Pro Bowler is worth noting. Longtime Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce only needed a single rep to believe the New Orleans Saints got a special player in Taliese Fuaga, their first round pick in the 2024 draft.

We always make a big deal out of the Senior Bowl and Shrine Bowl while gearing up for the NFL draft, and for good reason: the New Orleans Saints scout these events heavily. Seeing prospects competing against their peers means a lot to Mickey Loomis, Jeff Ireland, and their college scouting department. So how many rookies in the 2024 class were participants?

Of the Saints’ seven draft picks, all but two participated in one of the two major all-star games. Second-round cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry was an underclassman while fifth-round linebacker Jaylan Ford declined his invitation to the Senior Bowl. The Saints have signed 16 rookie free agents who were not selected, and a third of them competed at either the Senior Bowl or the Shrine Bowl.

The NFL Draft just wrapped up on Saturday, and despite not seeing any of the guys touch an NFL field yet, it seems like the New Orleans Saints did a pretty good job in this year’s draft.

Now that the draft is officially over and we know all seven of the Saints picks, let’s go through each one and give them a grade based on how good I think the pick was.

The New Orleans Saints have signed Oklahoma State defensive lineman Nathan Latu to an undrafted free-agent deal.

Latu, the brother of San Francisco 49ers tight end Cameron Latu, became a defensive starter for the Cowboys after transferring from a junior college.

He stands at 6’5” and 250 pounds with a long frame, quick footwork, and the ability to disrupt opponent’s run games.

During his time in Stillwater, he racked up 46 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 7 sacks.

The NFL deadline for teams to pick up the fifth-year options for 2025 on their first round picks in the 2021 draft came and went on Thursday, without any movement from the New Orleans Saints. This means that defensive end Payton Turner is entering a contract year in 2024, and that he’ll be a free agent in 2025 unless he earns an extension.

The 2024 NFL draft is in the books, and it was certainly a memorable one kicking off with a chaotic first round that featured an historic run on quarterbacks, wide receivers and offensive tackles, along with trades galore and some surprising picks.

While it’s far too early to evaluate these draft classes in full — considering they haven’t yet along played an NFL game — there’s been plenty of reaction to these 2024 rookie classes. There were several teams that were clear winners while others had some questionable moves that garnered early criticism. But we truly won’t know who won or lost this draft for at least three years.
