3 Saints ranked among ESPN's 100 best picks in 2024 NFL draft

The New Orleans Saints made some popular picks in the 2024 draft. ESPN ranked three of them among this year’s 100 best selections, starting with first-round right tackle Taliese Fuaga. Here’s why ESPN’s Matt Miller argues Fuaga was the 24th-best pick out of the 257 selections in this year’s draft:

But they didn’t stop there. The Saints also nailed their second-round choice, which was a trade up four spots to select cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry. Miller ranked that pick at 77th in his top 100, writing:

Look ahead a few months and we can guess what New Orleans Saints fans will be asking: why hasn’t Kool-Aid McKinstry signed his contract? Recent collective bargaining agreements between the NFL and the players union has streamlined negotiations on rookie contracts, so there aren’t many points of conflict remaining. Most of the Saints draft class now signs their deals after rookie minicamp in May. But there’s one area that has turned into a battlefield: contracts for second round picks.

The New Orleans Saints have signed UDFA S Millard Bradford.

Bradford is from Helotes, TX and attended O’Connor High School after transferring from Fork Union Military Academy. Bradford was a three-star recruit coming out of high school and was regarded as the No. 54 safety prospect in the country. He would then go on to TCU where he’d spend five years with the Horned Frogs. Over his last three seasons, Bradford became an extremely consistent player at the position amassing over 160 tackles, 15 pass deflections, 4 interceptions and 2 scores.

There’s room for one more in the New Orleans Saints receiving corps, so rookie wideout Mason Tipton has landed in a great place to compete. Saints Wire’s Jonny Camer spoke with Saints undrafted free agent Mason Tipton, who played four seasons at Yale. He finished his college career with 132 receptions, 2,067 receiving yards, and 19 touchdowns before impressing with a 4.3 time in the 40 yard dash leading up to the 2024 NFL draft.

The New Orleans Saints have signed UDFA CB Rico Payton from Pittsburg State.

Payton is from St. Louis, MO and attended Lindbergh High School. The 5’11”, 188 lb. CB attended Southern Illinois before transferring to Pittsburg State, where he logged 40 career tackles, 14 passes defended and one interception. In 2023, he was named team captain, NCAA Division II 2nd Team All-American by the AFCA and was a nominee for the Division II 2023 Cliff Harris Award, which is awarded to the small college Defensive Player of the Year.

The New Orleans Saints have signed Vanderbilt punter Matthew Hayball as an undrafted free agent.

New Orleans released Blake Gilikin during training camp last season giving the job to Australian punter Lou Hedley the starting spot. Hedley had a rough 2023 season ranking 33rd in yards per punt leading to questions about security as the team's lone punter.

Although going undrafted, Hayball had some draft hype and projections. He averaged 47.6 yards per punt in 2023 and the majority of his punt yards are through the air rather than after. Hayball’s biggest critique is the lack of hang time...

What a week for Kool-Aid McKinstry. First, he was selected by the New Orleans Saints in the second round of the 2024 NFL draft — a cause worthy of celebration. And McKinstry has a pretty sweet partnership in the works with his namesake. Kool-Aid will soon launch a limited edition flavor offering named “Black Cherry Blitz,” inspired by McKinstry’s favorite flavor, to celebrate the occasion.

We’re still waiting on details for when these unique collectibles will become available, so stay tuned. But it’s tough to not draw a comparison to the special Alvin Kamara Airheads candies the star...

The NFL draft is always tough on older players. Teams come out of it flush with young talent, which often leads to redundancies — that are quickly dealt with in a wave of cuts around the league.

And that’s exactly what Zay Jones experienced with the Jacksonville Jaguars this week. It isn’t too often you’ll see a pair of first round draft picks compete against each other at the college level. So it’s really impressive when you see two players picked back-to-back line up against one another.

Alontae Taylor has maintained an interesting social media presence during his career with the New Orleans Saints, and another chapter was added on Tuesday as he hinted at changing his jersey number for a second time.

After coming into the NFL and initially choosing the No. 27, he switched to No. 1 for 2023. Now, he is hinting at changing to his college number of 2. Jameis Winston held it when Taylor first joined the team, so it only recently became available.
