Spencer Rattler's fall in the 2024 NFL draft was partly attributed to questions about his character, but some people within the league feel that is a somewhat outdated concern for the quarterback.

One league executive acknowledged to The Athletic's Mike Sando that Rattler's "history doesn't help him," but he "has matured" and is "really coachable."

Rattler was a polarizing prospect throughout the pre-draft process for a variety of reasons. His college production at Oklahoma and South Carolina was often inconsistent.

In his scouting report of Rattler for B/R, Derrik Klassen noted only "a handful of players who throw with his flexibility and arm strength and accuracy," but his reckless style, "diminutive frame and poor athletic testing" left a lot of questions about his NFL potential.

Despite those concerns, Rattler was still B/R's sixth-ranked quarterback and No. 67 overall prospect in the class. ...

Grading the Saints 2024 Draft Class

The NFL Draft just wrapped up on Saturday, and despite not seeing any of the guys touch an NFL field yet, it seems like the New Orleans Saints did a pretty good job in this year’s draft.

Now that the draft is officially over and we know all seven of the Saints picks, let’s go through each one and give them a grade based on how good I think the pick was.

The Saints absolutely nailed their first pick in the draft by selecting Taliese Fuaga with their first pick. Obviously, I had Joe Alt as my No. 1 rated offensive tackle, but after him, I thought Fuaga and Olu Fashanu were 2A and 2B.

The New Orleans Saints drafted three players in round 5: Spencer Rattler, Bub Means, and Jaylan Ford. There are many different reasons why the Saints selected these prospects, some similar and some very different.

At pick 150, the Saints selected Spencer Rattler. This pick was considered a head-scratcher, but there are many reasons why the Saints did this. Spencer Rattler was one of the most polarizing prospects throughout the draft process. The topic of character issues clouded any conversation that was based around Rattler. The Saints do not like to draft players with character or...

The New Orleans Saints have decided to decline the fifth-year option on their former first round pass rusher in the hopes he produces on the field and earns a new contract.

The newest linebacker for the Saints made a major impact at Texas and will look to bring late round value to the team starting with rookie camp.

The South Carolina QB has elite arm talent and looks to have matured from his early college days, so he is ready to step in and be the future for the Black and Gold?

The New Orleans Saints have signed Oklahoma State defensive lineman Nathan Latu to an undrafted free-agent deal.

Latu, the brother of San Francisco 49ers tight end Cameron Latu, became a defensive starter for the Cowboys after transferring from a junior college.

He stands at 6’5” and 250 pounds with a long frame, quick footwork, and the ability to disrupt opponent’s run games.

During his time in Stillwater, he racked up 46 total tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 7 sacks.

Currently, Latu will wear #54 for the Black and Gold. However, numbers can change before the season due to roster...

Saints decline to pick up Payton Turner's fifth year option

  • News source: John Sigler

The NFL deadline for teams to pick up the fifth-year options for 2025 on their first round picks in the 2021 draft came and went on Thursday, without any movement from the New Orleans Saints. This means that defensive end Payton Turner is entering a contract year in 2024, and that he’ll be a free agent in 2025 unless he earns an extension.

It would have cost the Saints more than $13 million in 2025 to exercise Turner’s option, so it’s easy to understand why they declined to do so. Just 18 of the 32 first-round picks in 2021 had those options picked up by their teams, suggesting a hit rate...

The 2024 NFL draft is in the books, and it was certainly a memorable one kicking off with a chaotic first round that featured an historic run on quarterbacks, wide receivers and offensive tackles, along with trades galore and some surprising picks.

While it’s far too early to evaluate these draft classes in full — considering they haven’t yet along played an NFL game — there’s been plenty of reaction to these 2024 rookie classes. There were several teams that were clear winners while others had some questionable moves that garnered early criticism. But we truly won’t know who won or lost this draft for at least three years.

Our NFL Wire editors shared their initial grades for their respective draft classes. See who got the top marks:

The New Orleans Saints will not be picking up the fifth-year option on DE Payton Turner’s contract, according to multiple reports.

Turner, the Saints’ first-round draft selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, has dealt with a rash of injuries in his first few seasons in the Crescent City. When he has been on the field, he has accumulated 38 total tackles and three sacks in three seasons.

This news doesn’t come as a surprise as Turner will now have to stay on the field and produce if he wants to return with the Saints. Otherwise, New Orleans will look to their younger options at edge rusher or...
