Free agent offensive tackles should soon start flying off the board in NFL free
agency after Deshaun Watson picked a team.

Deshan Watson’s decision to join the Cleveland Browns (with a massive, fully guaranteed contract) does more than bring much clarity to the NFL’s complex quarterback situation. It should mean some quick movement in the stalled offensive tackle market in NFL free agency.

NFL Free Agency: Offensive tackles will likely soon find homes

Watson’s choice has two significant ripple effects, beyond what happens with Jimmy Garoppolo, Matt Ryan, and Baker Mayfield:

1. It allows teams that set cap space aside in case Watson picked them to spend that money on other needs (the Falcons and Saints, most notably).

2. It gives clarity to free agent tackle Terron Armstead, who PFN Aaron Wilson reported earlier in the week was holding off on his decision until Watson made his choice.

That was fast. On Tuesday morning, it was reported that the New Orleans Saints had agreed on a deal with Kellen Moore that made him their new head coach — and by Tuesday evening, Moore and his family already touched down in their new home.

Gayle Benson’s private jet was flown from New Orleans to pick up the Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator that afternoon, bringing Moore back to the city where he won a Super Bowl just 48 hours earlier. The Cowboys would agree to part ways with their offensive coordinator after the 2023 season. Moore would then spend one season with the Los Angeles Chargers. The...
