This year’s 2025 NFL Draft class is expected to have upwards of 20-30 draftable players at running back. A big name headlines them all in Boise State back Ashton Jeanty, but for teams that feel like the first-round price tag is a little too rich for their liking, the group offers a ton of high-impact players behind the Heisman finalist.

The New Orleans Saints would be wise to invest a pick at some point in this class. Behind starting running back Alvin Kamara, the Saints face many questions at the position. Last year’s late-season free agent signing Clyde Edwards-Helaire offers the most experience alongside Kamara, but behind them is a young room with some things left to prove.

Third-year back Kendre Miller has received a lot of criticism for his injury history and ball-carriers Jordan Mims and Xazavian Valladay haven’t seen a ton of opportunities to prove themselves just yet.

The Saints have an opportunity to boost competition, accelerate development, and even solidify the future of the position in this year’s draft. Beyond Jeanty, several other backs bring tremendous upside, offering the potential to become dynamic playmakers at the professional level.
North Carolina RB Omarion Hampton

Some say the gap between Jeanty as “RB1” and Hampton at “RB2” is fairly slim. The powerful rusher is a versatile playmaker with explosive long-speed, great vision, and impressive run after contact ability. ...

Last offseason, the New Orleans Saints let many of their players leave in free agency due to having to clean the cap. This year, the team has some more flexibility. Keeping depth players who can help when needed is always a good idea, and today, per Ari Meirov, the Saints did just that by re-signing WR Dante Pettis.

Pettis is not a name that will jump off the page when looking back at the moves the Saints made this offseason, but that does not mean this move is a bad one. When Pettis started due to injuries ravaging the Saints WR room, he made a bunch of plays and stepped up when many...

NEW ORLEANS — Derek Carr won’t be lowering his salary. Instead, the Saints are adjusting his contract, freeing up about $30 million and securing his spot as the starting quarterback for 2025, according to the SaintsWire.

The Saints first asked Carr to take a pay cut, but he held firm and secured his full $40 million for the year. However, the restructure lowered his salary cap hit from $51.5 million to roughly $20.5 million, saving the team nearly $31 million. The restructure didn’t require Carr’s approval, as this is a common practice in the league.

This will be Carr's third year with...

After weeks of speculation on the future of Derek Carr and the New Orleans Saints, the rumors of the veteran signal caller leaving have officially been put to bed.

Carr will be converting most of his nearly $40 million salary into a signing bonus for salary cap purposes.

The news comes after weeks of speculation regarding Carr's future with New Orleans, thanks in large part to the nearly $30 million increase to the league's salary cap.

Carr will look to have a better season after missing half of the season in 2024 with multiple injuries, including a broken hand.

The 11-year veteran...

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Chargers released edge rusher Joey Bosa. For the first time in his career, he is set to test free agency.

Over the years, Bosa has become an iconic member of the Chargers. His 72.0 sacks rank second in team history, behind Leslie O’Neal, who had 105.5. Bosa is also a five-time Pro Bowler and was named the rookie of the year in 2016. He is sure to be a hot commodity once free agency starts.

However, his recent health issues have resulted in a career decline, with him playing only 28 games since 2022 and adding only 14 sacks to his total. Bosa's five sacks in...

Upcoming Saints free agents who could return next season

The New Orleans Saints have some cap space issues to deal with before making any signings this year, but re-signing or bringing in players on short-term cheap deals can still be done. Paulson Adebo and Chase Young are the two main upcoming Saints free agents, but their contracts will be very pricy for a team trying to rebuild the cap space. The team’s focus could be more on the cheaper players out of contract that could still make an impact next season.

This move seems like a no-brainer, and a couple of weeks ago, it may have looked unlikely. Over recent days, players like Tyler Lockett...
