Mock draft picks for the Saints.

By John Hendrix - Athlon Sports

The future of the New Orleans Saints is both exciting and uncertain.

After hiring Kellen Moore as their new head coach last week, there's plenty of work to be done in New Orleans in order to turn the program around. Moore can't do it alone, as it's going to take a village to get the Saints out of their postseason drought.

With as many as six picks inside the Top 150 in the upcoming NFL Draft, the opportunity is there for the Saints to improve. They also need to see how they stack up during free agency, as there could be more losses for New Orleans to address. After some of this plays out, we could have a better picture of how they'll pick in the first round at 9th overall.

For now, here's a roundup of mock draft picks for the Saints from the past week with some thoughts.

Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Scott Tolzien is being hired as the New Orleans Saints’ new quarterbacks coach. Sorry, Chase Daniel.

Kellen Moore has yet to name his offensive coordinator, but he is filling out the positional coaches. This isn’t Tolzien and Moore’s first rodeo together. When Moore was the offensive coordinator with the Dallas Cowboys, Tolzien was a coaching assistant from 2020 to 2022. Before that, Tolzien worked as a backup in the NFL from 2011 to 2017.

After Moore became the Los Angeles Chargers offensive coordinator, the Cowboys promoted Tolzien to quarterbacks coach...

Hello, Who Dat Nation and CSC faithful! My name is Gary Walker, and I am so excited to join Canal Street Chronicles as a contributing writer. I am a lifelong New Orleans Saints fan, and I have always wanted the chance to take all of the time I spend thinking about the Saints and apply it to something a little more... productive.

I was a sports fan from a young age. Growing up in Lebanon, Ohio, hockey was my first love. I’d collect books on the NHL, ask my parents to take me to hockey games as much as possible, watched The Mighty Ducks movies on repeat and was always playing hockey in the...

The NFL’s franchise tag window opens Tuesday, February 18, at 3 p.m. CT, making today the first day that clubs can use the tender. The window will close on Tuesday, March 4 at 3 p.m. CT.

A franchise tag is a one-year contract that each NFL team is allowed to use one time during the offseason. The franchise tag will allow a team to keep a player on a guaranteed deal with a non-negotiated salary. This can used only on players who are set to become unrestricted free agents.

These are the two types of franchise tags:

Once the tag is used on a player, both sides will have until July 15 to...

Kellen Moore is continuing to fill out his offensive staff, and he’s bringing back another former New Orleans Saints coach in his latest move.

Moore’s first hire was bringing back Brendan Nugent as offensive line coach, and he is now is hiring Joel Thomas as running backs coach, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Thomas was was the only running backs coach Alvin Kamara knew until last year.

When Klint Kubiak took over last season, Thomas became the New York Giants running backs coach. The prospect of coaching Saquon Barkley intrigued him. Unfortunately for him, Barkley left in free agency...

Four offensive guards the Saints could target in free agency

It’s fairly obvious that the New Orleans Saints need to get some new bodies in their offensive line room. They have two cornerstone pieces in Taliese Fuaga and Erik McCoy, but we saw how much the offensive line struggled when McCoy was out with an injury - especially the interior of the line.

While building through the NFL Draft would be ideal and probably the route they will go, this year’s free agent offensive line class is pretty solid. They obviously won’t have a ton of money to spend, but there are some guys out there that they could get for a discounted rate that could still be an...

NFL insider doesn't see the Jets as a likely destination for Derek Carr

Go back a few years to when Derek Carr was released by the Las Vegas Raiders, it came down to the New York Jets and New Orleans Saints. The Jets told him he had the potential to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer if he came to New York. Carr, instead, chose to reunite with his former head coach Dennis Allen in New Orleans.

Allen was fired this season and Carr may be on his way out as well. Ironically, the Jets are in the market for a quarterback again after the Aaron Rodgers experiment fell flat. Some have wondered if Carr to the Jets would make sense if he hits the open market.

Kellen Moore on possibly hiring his brother, Missouri OC, to Saints' staff

Credit to Kellen Moore for not tipping his hand on any of his plans for the New Orleans Saints in his introductory press conference, including his potential coaching staff. One name often speculated about joining Moore has been his own brother — Kirby Moore, the Missouri Tigers offensive coordinator. Both brothers were former teammates on the Boise State Broncos way back when.

“I’d love to work with him one day,” Moore said when his brother was brought up last week. “Obviously, he’s in a tremendous spot, a tremendous role. They’ve had a ton of success at Missouri in the last couple years...

The New Orleans Saints have interviewed Philadelphia Eagles running backs coach Jemal Singleton for their offensive coordinator opening, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. This move that satisfies the Rooney Rule and allows them to hire an OC. You’d hope that minority candidates like Singleton and Christian Parker had a real shot at the job and weren’t just being used to check a box.

Singleton, 49, has been coaching in the NFL since 2016; he’s been a part of the Eagles’ staff since 2021 and was also named assistant head coach under Nick Sirianni. Philly has fielded one of the league’s best running...
