Notes and observations from Wednesday’s minicamp practice.

Attendance: Cam Jordan and Michael Thomas were not spotted.

Limited: Tre’quan Smith, Cam Meredith, Brandon Coleman, Deon Yelder, Daniel Lasco, Trey Hendrickson, Alex Okafor, Marcus Davenport

Different pace: After having a lot of team periods and action to follow during Tuesday’s practice, Wednesday’s session looked a little different. There were periods spent walking through some running plays and a lot of time on kickoffs. The team only had one team period where all the quarterbacks received reps. The practice ended with Drew Brees leading a two-minute period.

Special teams: The way on the team for a lot of players will be through special teams, so it is important to pay attention to who is getting reps with the various units. It’s too soon to handicap anything, but it is notable that guys like wide receiver Travin Dural, cornerback Arthur Maulet, running back Trey Edmunds and defensive back J.T. Gray all got work on the kick return team. Josh Huff, Boston Scott, Ted Ginn, Alvin Kamara and Tommylee Lewis all returned kicks.

Wil Lutz and Thomas Morstead both attempted onside kicks. The team also had a period where it attempted hurry-up field goals. ...

The New Orleans Saints wasted no time finding a Will Harris replacement, inking former Kansas City Chiefs safety Justin Reid to a three-year, $31.5 million deal with $22.5 million guaranteed, per Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The 28-year-old follows in the footsteps of his teammate and fellow Louisiana native, veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu, as both went from being teammates on the Houston Texans to winning a Super Bowl in Kansas City (Reid twice, Mathieu once) before heading to the Big Easy to rep the black and gold.

Reid finished the 2024 campaign with 70 solo tackles (15 assists), 32 stops, 6...

One of the bigger disappointments in recent NFL Draft memory for the New Orleans Saints has moved on. Payton Turner has reportedly agreed to a 1-year $3 million contract with the Dallas Cowboys. The Saints obviously did not pick up his fifth-year option, so Turner departs for Dallas after just four seasons in New Orleans.

Turner was picked with the 28th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft after a good but unremarkable career at the University of Houston. He was a project but never managed to stay on the field, as he only played 31 of a possible 68 games during his tenure in New Orleans due...

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints are making significant moves in free agency, securing key players while also seeing some departures.

The New Orleans Saints and veteran safety Tyrann Mathieu have agreed to a reworked contract, per Nick Underhill.

Mathieu’s new agreement will keep him in New Orleans for the 2025 season at a lower cap hit and with incentives, he can make up to $7.2 million.

In 2024, the veteran safety recorded 3 interceptions and 2 forced fumbles for the Saints in all 17 games. Mathieu’s consistency and availability have made him a top safety in the league, but as the team looks to do a soft rebuild, there was potential for the parties to part ways.

There were some rumors that Mathieu could be a cut...
