ATLANTA -- New Orleans' Super Bowl drought is over.

The NFL awarded the 2024 Super Bowl (58) to New Orleans after the city secured a unanimous vote during Wednesday morning's single-city ballot process among NFL owners, snapping New Orleans' two-bid losing streak for the NFL's championship game.

It will be the first time the city will host the game since 2013 when Baltimore defeated San Francisco in Super Bowl 47 on Feb. 3, 2013 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. It's also the 11th time New Orleans will host the Super Bowl, tying with Miami for the most games hosted by one city. This will be the eighth Super Bowl played in the Dome, while the other three games occurred at Tulane Stadium.

The 2024 Super Bowl will take place Feb. 4, falling right in the middle of Mardi Gras season much like the 2013 Super Bowl. The major two weeks of carnival season will split with Fat Tuesday falling on Feb. 13, 2024.

Landing the 2024 Super Bowl will complete a heavy cycle of some of the nation's top sporting events. New Orleans will host the College Football Playoff National Championship game on Jan. 13, 2020, the NCAA Women's Final Four on April 3-5, 2020 and the NCAA Men's Final Four on April 2-4, 2022.

Saints' offense stalls out during a punishing clash with the Eagles

NEW ORLEANS — The New Orleans Saints scored on their first drive Sunday, much as they had in their surprisingly high-scoring first two games of the season.

Nothing else about their 15-12 loss to Philadelphia looked anything like what happened in their blowout wins against Carolina and Dallas, when their offense looked virtually unstoppable and scored an NFL-high 91 points under new coordinator Klint Kubiak.

Limited to 12 first downs while being outgained 460 yards to 219, the Saints led the Eagles most of the way thanks to their opportunistic defense before being done in by Saquon...

What we learned from Saints loss to Eagles

The New Orleans Saints cruised through the season's first two weeks with very little pushback. Although the dominant wins were nice, too much of a good thing can be bad. Sunday’s matchup with the Eagles was New Orleans' first real challenge and they fell short. The score always remained close, and any team could take over at any moment. A loss is never celebrated, but now, you learn from your mistakes and correct them.

New Orleans lost Pro Bowl center Erik McCoy during their opening drive and missed him heavily throughout the game. The Eagles' dominant interior defensive line prevented...

Derek Carr regrets forcing the throw on his last-minute INT

The New Orleans Saints’ tough loss in Week 3 essentially ended on Derek Carr’s late interception, when he threw into double coverage while taking a hard hit up the middle. The Philadelphia Eagles defense got the better of him this time.

This throw was definitely ill-advised for a few reasons, as it was into double coverage, to Rashid Shaheed who was not fully breaking into his route yet enough to turn and look for the ball, and it was only second-and-5, which means it was not necessary to go for a deep-ball. Carr understands this in retrospect, having recapped the play in his post-game...

“Sunday Night Football” will feature the Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons in Week 3. The New Orleans Saints were already watching this game closely, but the stakes have risen after New Orleans’ loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

You were already rooting for the Chiefs, naturally, because why would you ever root for the Falcons? However, a Kansas City victory becomes more impactful to the early portion of the NFC South divisional race.

After winning the first two games of the season, the Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost their undefeated record and sit at 2-1. If Atlanta comes out...

Tyrann Mathieu regrets Eagles sideline altercation with Jalen Carter

Tyrann Mathieu got a little heated during Sunday’s 15-12 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. The New Orleans Saints safety was involved in a sideline altercation with Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter, who was fired up after the game was won for Philadelphia on an interception by Reed Blankenship. Carter’s coaches had to drag him back to the bench to keep things from escalating.

As the Saints’ defense took the field for Philadelphia’s final possession in the last 48 seconds of the game, Mathieu and Carter could be seen going back and forth with each other.

It was to the point that Carter...

Erik McCoy injury would be a 'red button' type of loss for Saints

Games early in the season always tend to result in some sort of overreaction, however, I don’t think it would be reactionary at all to say the New Orleans Saints offensive line would be in huge trouble if Erik McCoy had to miss some time.

Facing a player like Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter exacerbated the issue, but it went deeper than that. There was a point where Cesar Ruiz and Oli Udoh ran into each other in the backfield. Think Jordan Howden and Marshon Lattimore colliding on Dallas Goedert’s field-flipping catch, but as offensive linemen.

McCoy is the leader of...
