New Orleans can absolutely make a run at a title in a season with a loaded roster

by Will Brinson

Even when they won their only Super Bowl with Drew Brees and Sean Payton, the Saints were a one-dimensional team. Gregg Williams ran an -- ahem -- aggressive defense, but it wasn't necessarily a good defense, just an opportunistic one.

Last year things magically changed in New Orleans, thanks in large part to a historically good draft class that featured Marshon Lattimore and Marcus Williams, first- and second-round picks respectively, step up in a big way and improve the defensive side of the ball. The Saints went from a defense that is perennially the worst in the NFL to a top-10 team by DVOA, a highly improbable jump up from 31st in a single season.

Ryan Rymcyzk and Alvin Kamara, offensive picks in those same rounds, helped too. The Saints became a running-focused team, but in a modern way, with Kamara fitting in perfectly as a modern air back who can also run between the tackles. He and Mark Ingram were an incredible complement to each other, and a four-game suspension for Ingram shouldn't derail that. Ramcyzk allows them to watch Zach Strief walk away without skipping a beat. The offensive line is loaded, just like every other position group on this team.

One play from Super Bowl LIX may show Kellen Moore's mindset

During the Philadelphia Eagles’ rout of the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, there was one particular play and decision that stood out the rest.

The Eagles were leading the Chiefs 27-0 in the third quarter. By this time, there was a feeling the game was over. Kellen Moore didn’t take his foot off the gas. On the first play after a Kansas City turnover on downs, Jalen Hurts threw a bomb to DeVonta Smith, who appeared to be the primary target.

Moore is expected to be the New Orleans Saints head coach. He worked under Nick Sirianni and Brandon Staley in his last two stops. Both of...

Report: Derek Carr would have multiple suitors on the open market

Derek Carr future with the New Orleans Saints is up in the air and should be decided soon. He isn’t willing to take a pay cut and there’s a good chance he would opt to not waive his no-trade clause unless a great situation arises.

The problem is if it’s clear the New Orleans Saints are going to get rid of Carr regardless, teams may be reluctant to trade for Carr. The Saints were in the same situation two years ago when Carr left the Las Vegas Raiders.

However, do not expect a reluctant trade market to translate to a reluctant market if Carr becomes a free agent.

A surprise TV personality may be joining the New Orleans Saints coaching staff. Dan Orlovsky, Kellen Moore’s old teammate on the Detroit Lions, shared a vague sign-off message Monday morning on ESPN.

“You guys know this is the end of the season for me, certainly for (cohost Ryan Clark) as well, I’m taking a break,” Orlovsky said. “Won’t be on TV for a long time… Never know what the future holds, but I’m taking a break and I’m sure RC is as well.”

He’d be an interesting addition to Moore’s staff, assuming the Saints do hire the Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator. Orlovsky and Moore...

Vic Fangio returned to where his NFL career started, and left a champion

Credit where it’s due: Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio crafted a game plan that beat the brakes off the Kansas City Chiefs, slowing down and frustrating their offense long enough for Kellen Moore’s offense to put up enough points to keep the game out of reach. And they did it in the Super Bowl, the first title win of Fangio’s long NFL career.

It’s fitting that Super Bowl LIX was played at the same Superdome where Fangio started that coaching career. His first NFL job was with the New Orleans Saints, where he got to work with a couple of Hall of Fame linebackers on the...

Kellen Moore won more games at the Superdome than Dennis Allen this season

Kellen Moore hasn’t even officially taken the New Orleans Saints head coaching job yet, but he’s already outdone his predecessor. As observed by superfan “Darth Saint” on social media, Moore went 2-0 in games at the Caesars Superdome this season — winning more matchups than Dennis Allen did, who was fired after his 2-7 start to the 2024 season. The Saints were 1-3 at home during that span.

Moore’s Eagles beat Allen and the Saints head-to-head in Week 3, with two Saquon Barkley touchdown runs powering them to a hard-fought 15-12 victory. Then they returned for Super Bowl LIX and sent the...

Besson’s Mock Draft 2.0: Saints go QB round 1

With the New Orleans Saints zeroing in on a head coach, it has been rumored that top candidate Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is not thrilled with the Saints’ quarterback room. So, in my mock draft 2.0, and first full seven-round mock, I will be exploring the idea of New Orleans selecting a first-round quarterback for the first time in over 50 years.

Every mock I do comprises multiple mock draft simulations to help guide where players are valued and likely to be taken. While I do all the scouting, there are likely to be blurred lines in players values and it can...

With Super Bowl LIX officially over, the New Orleans Saints can now turn their attention to officially signing Philadelphia Eagles OC Kellen Moore as their new head coach.

Per league rules, coaches on the Super Bowl teams cannot sign or agree to sign a contract with another team until their season has completed. Because the Eagles were playing in the Super Bowl, their season did not officially end until today.

When we asked Moore about his thoughts on coming to New Orleans on Super Bowl Opening Night, he was coy and just replied that he had some great conversations with Mickey Loomis...

It is almost a certainty that the New Orleans Saints are hiring Super Bowl LIX Champion Philadelphia Eagles Offensive Coordinator Kellen Moore to become their new Head Coach this week. With that being the prevailing sentiment amongst fans, players, and NFL media, the next step becomes who Moore will turn to in order to fill out his coaching staff for the 2025 season.

Previously, we looked at what a potential Kellen Moore offensive coaching staff could look like, now here are some potential defensive candidates Kellen Moore could turn to. These are defensive coaches Moore and/or his...
