The Saints are back in action this week, and here's a few things we want to pay attention to when we see OTAs again.

By John Hendrix - Saints News Network | SI

The Saints will be getting back to action for another round of OTAs on Tuesday, as we're one more week closer to football returning. New Orleans will have one more round next week followed by a mandatory minicamp from June 11-13. The first session brought us plenty of notes and observations, and we only anticipate getting more insight on the team when we see them next. Here's some of the things we are looking for in Week 2.

ATTENDANCE CHANGES

While we weren't expecting full attendance in the first place, twelve Saints were not spotted on the practice field last week. In addition to the absences, three were not participating (Nathan Peterman, Mark Evans and Tommy Hudson) and Oli Udoh was working off to the side. The biggest names we're waiting to see show up, which again this is strictly voluntary, would be Alvin Kamara and Marshon Lattimore. Some players may also be missing that were there from the first session we observed.

GENERAL IMPROVEMENT

The flow of practice showed organization and time on task. There's plenty of players who can look good in practice, and there's not much to gauge when it comes to the linemen due to the lack of pads and contact. However, the general things can be seen like physique at that spot. Most notably, a lot of the offensive linemen looked slimmer and trimmer, and that could be by design with the new Klint Kubiak offense. ...

Week 2 of OTAs is here, but for the New Orleans Saints, the week starts with bad news. After practice today, Dennis Allen revealed to the media that edge rusher Tanoh Kpassagnon tore his Achilles earlier in the offseason.

Although this is not the news that the team or fans would want to hear, Dennis Allen said that Kpassagnon is expected to return sometime during the season. Kpassagnon has been able to cement himself into a rotational role on the defensive line. His versatility to play throughout the line will be missed. With this news, the Saints should be looking for defensive line...

METAIRIE, La. — The New Orleans Saints have lost defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon for the foreseeable future due to a torn Achilles suffered during the offseason, head coach Dennis Allen told media following Organized Team Activities (OTA) on Tuesday.

Allen is not ruling out a return during the season, but the 29-year-old edge rusher will miss training camp and the start.

“He’s going to be out a little while,” explained Allen. “He’s not going to be ready for training camp and we’ll see how long it takes him to recover."

The 2017 second-rounder out of Villanova joined the Saints in 2021...

This isn’t how you want to start the offseason. The New Orleans Saints announced that veteran defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon suffered a torn Achilles tendon in the spring that will sideline him through the summer, and likely into the 2024 seaosn.

“Tanoh tore his Achilles in the offseason,” head coach Dennis Allen said Tuesady. “So he’s going to be out for a little while.”

Kpassagnon won’t be able to participate in training camp this summer while recovering from this injury, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll be cleared to play during the regular season. For some context, former...

As we head into the thick of Organized Team Activities, or OTAs, the NFL Players Association is looking at changing the offseason program for all 32 teams, including the New Orleans Saints.

According to NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero, the NFLPA would eliminate voluntary training programs like OTAs in exchange for a longer training camp. Players would report in mid-June to early July under the new program.

A formal plan could be in place as soon as this summer. The current plan includes meetings, on-field drills, and and organized team activities split into three phases with teams allowed to...

Only Derrick Henry has ran against more 8-man boxes than Alvin Kamara since 2021

If it’s felt like everything has been hard for Alvin Kamara on rushing downs in recent years, you’d be right. It’s not enough for the porous New Orleans Saints offensive line to struggle in front of him. Kamara’s play callers have let him down, too, with predictable play designs keying in defenders to their intentions.

Thanks to charting shared by Steve Palazzolo, head of football product at Pro Football Focus, we can see that just one running back has ran against more boxes with 8 or more defenders lined up than Kamara since 2021: Derrick Henry, who twice led the league in rushing yards...

It’s too early to seriously predict which players might be picked in the 2025 NFL draft, but the event draws interest year-round and speculation won’t slow down just because we’re in a quiet stretch on the calendar.

The latest way-too-soon 2025 mock draft comes from Curt Popejoy over at Draft Wire. While the New Orleans Saints have a solid position at No. 9 (which would be the payoff for struggling through a hard-to-watch season with fewer wins than losses), in this projection New Orleans passed on every quarterback in the draft. The first passer, Georgia’s Carson Beck, wasn’t drafted...

The New Orleans Saints have their first primetime game of the season in Week 5. Unlike last year, when the first primetime game was against a struggling Panthers team, this year's matchup will be much harder. On Monday Night Football, the Saints will travel to Missouri to face the defending Super Bowl Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs.

Main Departures

Throughout the offseason, the Chiefs were able to add good players in positions of need, but the departure of key defense contributors overshadowed these moves. The loss of L’Jarius Sneed and Willie Gay could cause issues for...

Who are the New Orleans Saints’ top three players going into 2024? Just ask Pro Football Focus. PFF’s Trevor Sikkema highlighted the three best players for all 32 teams, and his choices for the Saints were pretty clear-cut. Sikkema pointed to a pair of experienced defenders when making his picks, but he says the team’s best player is on offense.

Here’s why Chris Olave, Demario Davis, and Tyrann Mathieu stand apart from the crowd:

Right tackle Ryan Ramczyk and defensive end Carl Granderson were also considered, but Ramczyk’s recent inconsistencies while dealing with a career-threatening...
