‘It’s going to rain.’ Saints banking on adverse weather this weekend in Tampa Bay

As far as New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton is concerned, there is no “chance” of rain for his team’s road game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week.

“It doesn’t look like it’s going to rain — it’s going to rain,” Payton said.

Indeed, the forecast for the Tampa Bay area calls for 100 percent chance of rain Sunday (Dec. 9) with thunderstorms in the morning.

With that in mind, the coach is planning to put his team through an outdoor practice Thursday (Dec. 6) to prepare for some less than ideal weather conditions in Tampa Bay this weekend — “wet ball drills, the whole nine yards,”

The countdown to the New Orleans Saints 2024 regular season kickoff is underway as we highlight every player who wears the corresponding jersey number of the day. With now 74 days remaining before the Saints’ Week 1 game against the Carolina Panthers, offensive lineman Olisaemeka Udoh is today’s Saints Player of the Day.

Let’s talk about his objectives for 2024 and how important his play will be in the weeks leading up to the season.

Udoh started 18 games for the Minnesota Vikings over a 5-year period after being selected in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL draft. In 2021, he started 16...

74 days until Saints' season opener: Every player to wear No. 74

We’re down to 74 days until the New Orleans Saints’ season opener, and we’re counting down the days by looking back on every player to wear the No. 74 jersey for the black and gold. While it currently belongs to Olisaemeka Udoh, an offensive lineman who played for new Saints play caller Klint Kubiak on the Minnesota Vikings, it has a strong history.

James Hurst wore No. 74 well for several years as a veteran backup and occasional starter for the Saints before his retirement this offseason. It was also favored by Jermon Bushrod, the Super Bowl XLIV champion who returned to finish his career where it started.

But the best player to ever put it on was the late Derland Moore. The defensive lineman spent 13 years with the Saints, starting 146 of his 170 games, toiling through some rough years in the 1970s before laying the groundwork for the famed “Dome Patrol” defenses in the 1980s. You can hear more of his story from Moore himself in his appearance on the

Saints get the player we wanted all along in 2021 re-draft

It’s no secret that the New Orleans Saints botched the start of their 2021 NFL draft. They opened the event by drafting defensive end Payton Turner, a surprise pick who many experts didn’t see going off the board so early. And Turner’s career to this point has mostly been frustrating.

The 33rd Team’s Marcus Mosher has the Saints moving differently. Going into the draft, cornerback was an obvious priority for the Saints. But when top targets like Caleb Farley and Greg Newsome II were taken ahead of them, the Saints chose to go in a different direction, selecting defensive end Payton...

Mark Ingram's 75-yard touchdown run is the Saints Play of the Day

There are 75 days left to go until the New Orleans Saints kick off their 2024 season, so we’re highlighting one of the longest touchdown runs in franchise history. Mark Ingram II’s career-long 75-yard score against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi’s Stadium back in 2016 is our Saints Play of the Day.

It was the longest play from scrimmage of Ingram’s career, and it came at a critical juncture. The Saints were fighting to get to .500 after a 3-4 start to their season, and Colin Kaepernick had just scored on a 47-yard touchdown pass to DuJuan Harris to cut into New Orleans’ lead. Phil...

We’re officially in the summer now, and the New Orleans Saints aren’t very busy. OTAs and minicamp are behind them. Training camp is a full month away. So it’s a good time to look back at their history and some of the players who have made them great.

The Saints have competed in 23 playoff games in the history of the franchise (going 10-13), but which players have been on the field most often? The postseason, and the opportunity to win a Super Bowl, is what it’s all about. Drew Brees obviously leads the group, but can you guess which Saints players have appeared in the most playoff games? Here are the 15 players who have participated in 8 or more of them:

Saints’ 2017 NFL draft class labeled 2010’s best draft class

The New Orleans Saints 2017 NFL draft class is one of legend inside and outside of the fan base. Alvin Kamara, Marshon Lattimore, Ryan Ramczyk, Marcus Williams, and Trey Hendrickson all came to New Orleans in one draft class.

Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski labeled it as the best class of the 2010’s. This comes off the heels of placing Top 10 of the century in ESPN’s rankings. Sobleski required at least three difference makers for the class to make the cut. The Saints delivered five. Kamara and Lattimore made an instant impact as Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year winners. That...

Why Rashid Shaheed could have his best year yet

Rashid Shaheed has been a valuable member of the New Orleans Saints offense, ever since signing as a UDFA in 2022. I believe that under Klint Kubiak, he could have his best year yet.

Up to this point, Shaheed has 1,207 receiving yards with seven touchdowns. It’s in deep vertical routes where he finds his magic. He’s also appeared in the run game a couple of times, gathering 94 rushing yards and one touchdown. Shaheed also plays the return game, and he’s accumulated 704 kickoff return yards and 532 punt return yards with one touchdown. Last year if it wasn’t for injuries, he would’ve been...

The NFL shared a highlight reel of the New Orleans Saints’ 10 best plays from the 2023 season on social media, which included a large presence of Rashid Shaheed and Chris Olave. Of the 10 plays, the Saints’ leading receivers accounted for seven of them.

This goes to show just how dynamic the Saints wide receiver tandem is. Olave made an appearance in four plays including the top two spots and Shaheed showed up three times. One of Shaheed’s appearances came on special teams, as well.

All of the offensive plays were passing plays. Juwan Johnson made an appearance with a catch from the Week...

New Orleans Saints safety J.T. Gray hosted his 3rd annual “Backyard Dawgz” youth football camp on Saturday, June 22nd, at his former high school in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

The event, which was co-hosted by another Clarksdale High alum, Green Bay Packers guard Elgton Jenkins, featured a day of skills, drills, and fundamentals in a competitive, fun environment.

Clarksdale High School also named their athletics fieldhouse after Gray, and the day itself was named “J.T. Gray Day” in Clarksdale, MS.

Gray was first signed by the Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2018.

We’re down to Day 75 in our countdown to the New Orleans Saints’ regular season opener, making the current owner of the No. 75 jersey our Saints Player of the Day: Taliese Fuaga. This year’s first-round draft pick has joined the team with high expectations, so let’s recap his background and what his goal should be in 2024:

Fuaga played right tackle in college but the Saints have converted him to the left side, and it’s a challenge he’s embracing. They’re banking on a smooth transition in his rookie year to better protect Derek Carr’s blind side. While he’s best known for his work moving...
