NEW ORLEANS — Saints running back Alvin Kamara rejects the premise that his absence from voluntary practices this offseason indicates a lack of enthusiasm for — or commitment to — learning New Orleans' new offense.

“I’ve been in this eight years," said Kamara, who was selected by New Orleans in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft and was the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year. “I’m pretty confident in my ability to pick up on information.”

New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen announced Tuesday that the team will open their 2024 training camp on July 24. Rookies typically report three days earlier, so that would be July 21.

“The 24th is the first actual practice date. On the 23rd we’ll do a conditioning test, and the 24th will be our first day of practice. July 24th,” Allen said.

Remember, this year’s training camp will be held in Southern California at UC Irvine’s campus due to large-scale renovations to the Saints’ team cafeteria and indoor practice facility.

Things aren’t looking good for Ryan Ramczyk. The New Orleans Saints’ former All-Pro right tackle was an excused absence from minicamp practice on Tuesday, and head coach Dennis Allen said he’s the only injured player not currently with the team.

“I think the plan all along is for him to have been back home, resting, doing his rehab plan there,” Allen said. “We’ve got a plan for him. Certainly we don’t have to make any decisions now, but I haven’t seen the progress that I was hoping to see. And so, yeah, we’ve got him at home doing his rehab there.”

The New Orleans Saints start their mandatory minicamp today through Thursday. They took the opportunity to invite several players to try out for a roster spot in team.

Per Nick Underhill of neworleans.football, the Saints have invited wide receiver Russell Gage, defensive tackle Camron Peterson, offensive tackle Cameron Wire, linebacker Jordan Smith, and safety Roderic Teamer to try out.
