The Saints are back in action this week, and here's a few things we want to pay attention to when we see OTAs again.

By John Hendrix - Saints News Network | SI

The Saints will be getting back to action for another round of OTAs on Tuesday, as we're one more week closer to football returning. New Orleans will have one more round next week followed by a mandatory minicamp from June 11-13. The first session brought us plenty of notes and observations, and we only anticipate getting more insight on the team when we see them next. Here's some of the things we are looking for in Week 2.

ATTENDANCE CHANGES

While we weren't expecting full attendance in the first place, twelve Saints were not spotted on the practice field last week. In addition to the absences, three were not participating (Nathan Peterman, Mark Evans and Tommy Hudson) and Oli Udoh was working off to the side. The biggest names we're waiting to see show up, which again this is strictly voluntary, would be Alvin Kamara and Marshon Lattimore. Some players may also be missing that were there from the first session we observed.

GENERAL IMPROVEMENT

The flow of practice showed organization and time on task. There's plenty of players who can look good in practice, and there's not much to gauge when it comes to the linemen due to the lack of pads and contact. However, the general things can be seen like physique at that spot. Most notably, a lot of the offensive linemen looked slimmer and trimmer, and that could be by design with the new Klint Kubiak offense. ...

Dennis Allen should be on the hot seat going into 2024

It shouldn’t be a hot take to say Dennis Allen should be on the hot seat going into 2024. The New Orleans Saints have tolerated too much mediocrity under his watch, having missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons while wilting in their biggest games. Allen has not delivered on the expectation general manager Mickey Loomis outlined when he was hired, envisioning a coach who could field a competitive team each week.

And it’s not just us saying it. That’s the word from Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay, who started with Allen when listing head coaches whose jobs could be in jeopardy this season...

Bleacher Report says the Saints should bring in an old division rival

There is still time for the New Orleans Saints to put the finishing touches on their roster for the 2024 season, and Bleacher Report’s Matt Holder has an idea for what they should do next.

Holder listed one more move each team should make before training camp starts in late July. For the Saints, that meant signing an old division rival: Tampa Bay Buccaneers left tackle Donovan Smith, most recently with the Kansas City Chiefs. Here’s why:

Depending on where you look, the Saints are under the salary cap by about $5.7 million. Smith signed with the Chiefs last year on a one-year, $3 million...

Rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler intercepted twice at Saints OTAs on Tuesday

It might be time to put that talk about Spencer Rattler starting ahead of Derek Carr to bed. From the reports coming out of New Orleans Saints practices this spring, he isn’t ready to push Jake Haener out of the backup spot, either. The fifth-round draft pick hasn’t exactly hit the ground running.

Rattler was intercepted twice at Tuesday’s organized team activities practice open to the media; both passes were picked off by another rookie, Millard Bradford, an undrafted free agent out of TCU. Locked On Saints host Ross Jackson charted every pass attempt in team drills, which were rough for...

Dennis Allen announced New Orleans Saints defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon tore his Achilles during the offseason, head coach Dennis Allen said Tuesday. Kpassagnon isn’t one of the biggest names on the Saints defensive line, but his absence will be noticed if New Orleans doesn’t get more from their young players.

Cameron Jordan, Carl Granderson and Chase Young are expected to lead the charge off the edge. There are question marks there but contributions from young draft picks like Isaiah Foskey and Payton Turner would help complete the rotation at defensive end. The Saints will want to go...

Week 2 of OTAs is here, but for the New Orleans Saints, the week starts with bad news. After practice today, Dennis Allen revealed to the media that edge rusher Tanoh Kpassagnon tore his Achilles earlier in the offseason.

Although this is not the news that the team or fans would want to hear, Dennis Allen said that Kpassagnon is expected to return sometime during the season. Kpassagnon has been able to cement himself into a rotational role on the defensive line. His versatility to play throughout the line will be missed. With this news, the Saints should be looking for defensive line...

METAIRIE, La. — The New Orleans Saints have lost defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon for the foreseeable future due to a torn Achilles suffered during the offseason, head coach Dennis Allen told media following Organized Team Activities (OTA) on Tuesday.

Allen is not ruling out a return during the season, but the 29-year-old edge rusher will miss training camp and the start.

“He’s going to be out a little while,” explained Allen. “He’s not going to be ready for training camp and we’ll see how long it takes him to recover."

The 2017 second-rounder out of Villanova joined the Saints in 2021...

This isn’t how you want to start the offseason. The New Orleans Saints announced that veteran defensive end Tanoh Kpassagnon suffered a torn Achilles tendon in the spring that will sideline him through the summer, and likely into the 2024 seaosn.

“Tanoh tore his Achilles in the offseason,” head coach Dennis Allen said Tuesady. “So he’s going to be out for a little while.”

Kpassagnon won’t be able to participate in training camp this summer while recovering from this injury, and it remains to be seen whether he’ll be cleared to play during the regular season. For some context, former...

As we head into the thick of Organized Team Activities, or OTAs, the NFL Players Association is looking at changing the offseason program for all 32 teams, including the New Orleans Saints.

According to NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero, the NFLPA would eliminate voluntary training programs like OTAs in exchange for a longer training camp. Players would report in mid-June to early July under the new program.

A formal plan could be in place as soon as this summer. The current plan includes meetings, on-field drills, and and organized team activities split into three phases with teams allowed to...
