ATLANTA -- New Orleans' Super Bowl drought is over.

The NFL awarded the 2024 Super Bowl (58) to New Orleans after the city secured a unanimous vote during Wednesday morning's single-city ballot process among NFL owners, snapping New Orleans' two-bid losing streak for the NFL's championship game.

It will be the first time the city will host the game since 2013 when Baltimore defeated San Francisco in Super Bowl 47 on Feb. 3, 2013 in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. It's also the 11th time New Orleans will host the Super Bowl, tying with Miami for the most games hosted by one city. This will be the eighth Super Bowl played in the Dome, while the other three games occurred at Tulane Stadium.

The 2024 Super Bowl will take place Feb. 4, falling right in the middle of Mardi Gras season much like the 2013 Super Bowl. The major two weeks of carnival season will split with Fat Tuesday falling on Feb. 13, 2024.

Landing the 2024 Super Bowl will complete a heavy cycle of some of the nation's top sporting events. New Orleans will host the College Football Playoff National Championship game on Jan. 13, 2020, the NCAA Women's Final Four on April 3-5, 2020 and the NCAA Men's Final Four on April 2-4, 2022.

Two former New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator candidates have already been fired by the teams that hired them this offseason, with the Chicago Bears jettisoning Shane Waldron not long after the Las Vegas Raiders moved on from Luke Getsy.

Klint Kubiak, who the Saints ultimately went with, must prove he shouldn’t join them. Getsy interviewed with New Orleans twice before accepting the Raiders job. Kubiak may have been hired by Dennis Allen but that doesn’t mean Darren Rizzi won’t let him go if the team doesn’t get results. Fortunately, that feels unlikely after the team revived itself...

On Sunday, we saw the New Orleans Saints get “Rizzed Up” to defeat the Atlanta Falcons in the Caesars Superdome. This was their first win since Week 2 and their first under interim head coach Darren Rizzi. It’s always great to defeat the Falcons but this game was one that got both the players and fans fired up, something we had not seen in New Orleans for a while now. All week there had been talk of changes that Rizzi made in meetings, the locker room and practice. Whatever took place, it definitely worked because the team had reignited a missing spark.

Let’s hope they can keep that fire...

Trevor Penning was PFF’s top-rated offensive tackle this week

Trevor Penning just might make it. The New Orleans Saints right tackle was recognized as the highest-rated blocker of Week 10 at Pro Football Focus, with a 92.8 PFF player grade.

That’s impressive even with the subjective cautions that come with PFF grades. Penning had the league’s highest grade as a run blocker (4.7) and he was charged with allowing just one pressure on 27 snaps in pass protection. He’s really coming into his own after moving to the right side, even if he isn’t a finished project just yet.

He just needs to keep stacking good days and good games like this. The best thing...

Darren Rizzi says making Alvin Kamara a captain was 'the right thing to do'

When news broke last week that Alvin Kamara would be a New Orleans Saints team captain for the remainder of the season, it was easy to wonder why he wasn’t already a captain. He’s one of the faces and biggest leaders on the team. The veteran running back being a captain feels like a no brainer, and interim head coach Darren Rizzi agrees.

It was Rizzi’s call, and it wasn’t a hard one to make. He explained Kamara has been “acting like a captain, practicing like a captain, playing like a captain so why not make him a captain?” All of these points seem like common sense.

“Alvin’s presented...

Bleacher Report’s staff gives their biggest takeaway from each team every week. Their biggest takeaway for the New Orleans Saints is that the coaching change gave the team a spark. New Orleans fired Dennis Allen after nearly three seasons as head coach and replaced him with special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi.

There were many changes throughout the week that seemed like small moves, but when they’re all compiled together it begins to resemble a culture reset. There was an immediate and different aura around this team and it translated to the field on Sunday versus the Atlanta Falcons...

The New Orleans Saints upset the NFC South favorite Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. The Saints were losers of seven straight and desperately needed a win after firing head coach Dennis Allen after two and a half seasons. While the win was exciting in many ways, New Orleans is far from contenders and there is plenty to work on.

Newly signed wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling exploded for the Saints during his home debut catching 3 passes for 109 yards and 2 touchdowns. New Orleans needed a receiver to step up for them after stars Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed had suffered injuries. During...

Losing streak be gone.

It was quite the week across the NFC South with the Atlanta Falcons suffering their first divisional loss of the season in the unlikely 20-17 victory by none other than the New Orleans Saints on their home turf. That shakes things up from a first-glance perspective, but by the numbers where the division is concerned, does not actually make that much of a change at all outside of giving Atlanta some big things to think about.

Here’s a look at where things stand with each team in the NFC South with Week 10 officially in the books, and what we can expect moving forward:

Drew Brees on keeping playmakers like Michael Thomas engaged in games

Legendary former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees joined ESPN’s pregame set for Monday Night Countdown before kickoff between the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Rams, and a key point of discussion was the trouble offenses loaded with weapons like Miami experienced in spreading the ball around.

Tyreek Hill. Jaylen Waddle. De’Von Achane. Raheem Mostert and Jaylen Wright. Those are just some of the playmakers clamoring for touches. And Brees knows a thing or two about keeping his superstars happy. He and Michael Thomas made a lot of history together with the Saints, and he shared...
