The parents at Benjamin Franklin High School got the drive started.

Drew Brees provided the big plays to take it down into the red zone.

With the fundraising muscle of the Brees Dream Foundation, the Saints and the NFL behind the effort, Benjamin Franklin held a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday to celebrate the start of a $545,000 renovation of the locker rooms, the construction of a concession stand and a press box at the football field, as well as further upgrades to the Benjamin Franklin athletic facilities, including permanent lighting.

Benjamin Franklin has raised $485,000 toward the project already and expects to begin construction as soon as June 1, assistant principal Donald Jackson said.

We’ve heard NFL head coaches be described in a few different ways, but Marquez Valdes-Scantling’s description of Darren Rizzi has to be one of the more unique descriptions in recent memory.

In a sitdown interview with Kay Adams, Valdes-Scantling compared the New Orleans Saints interim head coach to a Sour Patch Kid.Yes, the candy that’s sour then sweet. Instead of being sour and sweet, Rizzi possesses that same duality but in a different way. Valdes-Scantling described it as being “Fiery one second then he’s cool the next second.”

As funny as it is, it’s also a great representation of...

The New Orleans Saints are preparing to take on the Jameis Wiston-led Cleveland Browns to try and end continue adding to the win column. The Saints are finally getting closer to healthy getting back stud center Erik McCoy and rookie cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry. However, linebacker Pete Werner missed practice with a hand injury he suffered against the Atlanta Falcons. Head coach Darren Rizzi compared the injury to Willie Gay’s earlier in the season he missed a game with.

The Cleveland Browns injury report only consisted of five players to start the week with no players being absent. Stud...

This is what you want to see. The New Orleans Saints shared their shortest injury report in weeks, if not months, ahead of Week 11’s home game with the Cleveland Browns. Just nine players were listed this time after what’s felt like double-digit injury reports had become the norm.

And of those nine, only three didn’t practice on Wednesday. Linebacker Pete Werner (hand), guard Lucas Patrick (ankle), running back Jamaal Williams (groin) weren’t able to go, though in Werner’s case he’s said to be day-to-day with a chance to play on Sunday. So really that’s two inactives and a single...

Credit where it’s due: Zack Baun is flying high with the Philadelphia Eagles. The former New Orleans Saints draft pick switched teams in free agency, and that decision has paid off. Baun just won recognition as the NFC Defensiive Player of the Week for the first time in his career.

Baun was integral to the Eagles’ dismantling of the NFC East-rival Dallas Cowboys; he totaled 8 tackles (3 solo, with a tackle for loss) plus two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery in their 34-6 win. So why wasn’t he putting up those kind of numbers in New Orleans?

For one thing, the Saints didn’t have much...

Washington Commanders fans celebrated their team making the league’s biggest move at the NFL trade deadline, but they’ll have to wait another week to get their first look at Marshon Lattimore. The former New Orleans Saints cornerback is still dealing with a hamstring injury that sidelined him for last Sunday’s game. Washington head coach Dan Quinn announced Wednesday that Lattimore won’t be able to play on Thursday night, either.

Hamstring issues have trailed Lattimore since his college days at Ohio State; it’s one reason he fell to the Saints in the 2017 NFL draft in the first place...

A legendary former New Orleans Saints quarterback congratulated Darren Rizzi on beating the Falcons, but he initially thought it was Archie Manning’s famous grandson, not Archie himself, texting him on Monday. Rizzi shared the story and his family’s surprising connection with the Mannings when reflecting on his first career win as an NFL head coach.

Plenty of well-wishers reached out after Rizzi ended the Saints’ seven-game losing streak, but he says the message he received from the elder Manning stands out most.

“I got a lot, my favorite one so far is from Archie Manning,” Rizzi...
