Spencer Rattler's fall in the 2024 NFL draft was partly attributed to questions about his character, but some people within the league feel that is a somewhat outdated concern for the quarterback.

One league executive acknowledged to The Athletic's Mike Sando that Rattler's "history doesn't help him," but he "has matured" and is "really coachable."

Rattler was a polarizing prospect throughout the pre-draft process for a variety of reasons. His college production at Oklahoma and South Carolina was often inconsistent.

In his scouting report of Rattler for B/R, Derrik Klassen noted only "a handful of players who throw with his flexibility and arm strength and accuracy," but his reckless style, "diminutive frame and poor athletic testing" left a lot of questions about his NFL potential.

Despite those concerns, Rattler was still B/R's sixth-ranked quarterback and No. 67 overall prospect in the class. ...

New Orleans Saints announce new jersey numbers for veterans, rookies

The New Orleans Saints will be busy running their rookie minicamp this time next week, and now we know which jersey numbers many of their new players will be wearing. But it isn’t just the first-year pros choosing new numbers. Veteran pickups like defensive end Chase Young and linebacker Willie Gay have chosen their jersey numbers, too. And a couple of players who were on the team last year have switched into new digits, like defensive tackle Khalen Saunders.

Expect more changes over the summer as players are shuffled on and off of the roster, freeing up coveted jersey numbers for others — it’s just one example, but there’s a good chance that second-round cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry won’t be wearing No. 34 in the fall. Incidentally, that’s the same number Marshon Lattimore wore as a rookie before moving to No. 23 over the summer, which he’s since made his own. Maybe McKinstry is hoping to do the same.

Here’s the full list of Saints players with new jersey numbers in 2024:

The New Orleans Saints had three picks in the fifth round in the NFL Draft on Saturday. With the 175th overall pick, they selected Texas linebacker Jaylan Ford.

This was a good pickup for the Saints as Demario Davis is getting older, and the team lost Zack Baun in free agency. In his first meeting with the media, Ford said he looks up to Demario Davis.

“He’s one of the best linebackers in the league right now.” Ford said, “I’m just glad I get to have this opportunity.”

Ford spent three seasons with the Texas Longhorns. In that span, he played in 49 games (29 starts) with 287 tackles...

What Bub Means brings to the Saints offense

The New Orleans Saints drafted Pittsburgh WR Bub Means with the 170th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

The Saints have a good pair of speed receivers with Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed but continue looking to replace veteran Michael Thomas’ presence with a receiver who could make the heavily contested targets. New Orleans drafted 6’5 wide receiver A.T. Perry in the seventh round of last year's draft but continues to look for playmakers and depth at the position.

Means is 6’1 and weighed in at 212 pounds at the NFL combine while also running a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash.

The versatile...

Stock Up, Stock Down from the Saints' 2024 draft haul

The New Orleans Saints are in better shape after the 2024 NFL draft than they were before it — which is the goal every team has in mind for the annual selection event. But while some players on the team are in better standing than they were a week earlier, others may now find themselves on shakier ground.

So whose stock is up after the 2024 draft? Which Saints players’ stock is down, and who might be feeling some pressure with training camp on the horizon? There are players who made the team last year that may be left on the outside looking in come September. That’s what we’re seeking to answer in our first offseason stock report:

CSC Poll Results: Which draft pick are you most excited about

In this week’s poll question we asked which draft pick by the New Orleans Saints, other than their first round pick, were you most excited about.

After 699 votes, Alabama CB Kool-Aid McKinstry won with 59.8% of the vote. McKinstry was a borderline 1st round prospect that the Saints got near the top of the 2nd round. He comes at a position that is in desperate need of depth, as the Saints have been unable to get through a whole season without a starting corner missing significant time over the last few seasons. With arguably the best name in the draft, Kool-Aid comes in with the potential...

Similarly to the last two second round picks the Saints have made, McKinstry may not sign his contract until training camp.

Saints made a hefty investment in rookie free agent Dallin Holker

Don’t say the New Orleans Saints aren’t willing to spend big to get the players they covet. The Saints guaranteed $235,000 of their contract with rookie Dallin Holker, per ESPN’s Katherine Terrell, making the former Colorado State tight end their highest-paid undrafted free agent this year. The deal includes a $10,000 signing bonus. He’s essentially guaranteed a spot on the practice squad, but the expectation should be for him to make the 53-man roster outright.

So why is he such an appealing prospect? The raw numbers aside (Holker caught 64 passes for 766 yards last season, scoring 6...

Saints 53-man roster projection following 2024 NFL draft

  • News source: John Sigler

The 2024 NFL draft is behind us and all eyes are turning to a busy slate of offseason workouts for the New Orleans Saints, all of which leads up to training camp, preseason, and a difficult round of roster cuts before the season starts in September. So which players on the team right now do you see making it to Week 1? How many were on the team last year? In our post-draft projections, just 36 of the 53 players on the opening-day roster a year ago are returning for 2024.

Some players are dealing with serious injuries. All-Pro Ryan Ramczyk’s career is in jeopardy and we aren’t going to assume he’ll make the 53-man roster in Week 1; linebacker Nephi Sewell is recovering from his own knee injury suffered in December, and both will probably start the season on one of the reserve lists.

There are still some tough decisions ahead. In this projection, we have the Saints moving on from one of their former first-round picks (Payton Turner) while also shaking up their kicking situation on special teams (swapping Matthew Hayball for Lou Hedley). We tried to stick close to the numbers the Saints took into Week 1 last year, but we made a few tweaks to represent the state of the roster as it currently stands. Here’s who made the cut:
