As your New Orleans Saints prepare for the 2023 NFL Draft, we take a look at the top 10 ranked players at various positions. The 2023 NFL Draft big board rankings are reflective of Bucky Brooks' top five 2023 NFL Draft prospects by position 2.0 and ESPN's NFL Draft "Best Available" list.
Here are the top 10 ranked draft prospects at cornerback:

2023 NFL Draft prospects - Cornerback | No. 1 Devon Witherspoon | Illinois

1681885038827.png

Devon Witherspoon is a ball-hawking cornerback who is always looking to make a play on the ball. Coming into the draft as the best available cornerback on NFL.com and ESPN, Witherspoon will be looking to solidify his place in a defensive backfield. He has the traits and play-making abilities to be half of a powerful cornerback tandem but may need to refine his skills just a little bit before he gets to that point. He lacks the elite speed to keep up with faster receivers, so he may need safety help on some routes, but if he is right next to the receiver, then there's a decent chance he will be making a play.

Height: 5 feet 11 1/2

Weight: 181 pounds

NFL.com Draft Grade: 6.47

NFL.com overview: "Witherspoon is a fun watch but requires evaluators to carefully consider his strengths and weaknesses relative to the scheme. He plays with anticipation, route feel, and a consistent sense of urgency to prevent catches, as displayed by his high number of pass breakups. He plays with ball-hawking eyes and good balance from zone coverage and is very aggressive tackling both after the catch and in run support...The play-making mentality and traits give him a solid chance to become a CB2 in the league."

The New Orleans Saints have had a very unfortunate season, and although the rosters health has started to improve, the team has been hit with more injury news. Rookie linebacker Jaylan Ford has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a lower leg injury. This injury occurred on special teams against the Raiders.

Jaylan Ford has primarily played on special teams throughout his rookie year, but the hope was Ford could break into the starting lineup next season. Depending on the severity of the injury, there is a chance Ford could be out for training camp and potentially some part of...

Where do Saints players rank in final 2025 Pro Bowl voting counts?

The New Orleans Saints have sent a lot of players to the Pro Bowl in the past, especially since the tail end of Drew Brees’ career with the famous 2017 draft class receiving so many awards. That may not be the case this year, though, as they aren’t filling up the ballots as much as they used to. Understandable, as they are sitting at 5-11. They do have five players, though, listed among the top-10 at their positions. Also unsurprisingly, they have just as many former players on the list.

This past week was the last chance

Saints' 2025 opponents are all but set

The 2024 NFL regular season is coming to a close, and for another year the New Orleans Saints will be watching the playoffs from home just like many of their fans. But this offseason is going to be different. The Saints must hire a new head coach after team owner Gayle Benson overruled general manager Mickey Loomis and fired Dennis Allen at midseason. Interim head coach Darren Rizzi hasn’t done enough to win the job. They’ll be busy on Airline Drive.

So we’re taking a quick look at 2025. Leaguewide standings are nearly set, though not in the NFC South, which means all but three of the Saints’ opponents next year are already confirmed. And we know the options in play for those last few slots.

Depending on Week 18’s results, the Saints could move down from third in the NFC South standings to fourth if they lose to the Buccaneers while the Carolina Panthers upset the Atlanta Falcons. That would be the difference in hosting the 7-9 Dallas Cowboys next year or the 3-13 New York Giants, as well as visiting the 11-5 Green Bay Packers or 4-12 Chicago Bears; we’re not as worried about getting the 4-12 Jacksonville Jaguars or 3-13 Tennessee Titans, but maybe we should be. This Saints team hasn’t taken advantage of multiple slates ranked among the easiest schedules in recent years.

So with that in mind, here’s what we know, and what we know we don’t know, about the Saints’ 2025 schedule:

Saints' embarrassing loss to Raiders didn't improve 2025 draft stock

One of the only positives to a losing season is that the NFL draft becomes more fun, thanks to securing a good pick. That is not the case for the New Orleans Saints this season as they keep losing, this time an embarrassing home defeat to the Las Vegas Raiders, and their draft positioning has not improved.

According to the experts at Tankathon, the New Orleans Saints would currently be given the No. 10 overall pick, which is the same exact spot they were in before their back-to-back awful losses.

There are simply too many bad teams this year. Especially with the 17th game being added...

Important things left to watch for in Saints' final game vs. Buccaneers

The New Orleans Saints are coming off of yet another embarrassing loss and have just one more game remaining, against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. While there isn’t a lot to look forward to, a couple of key things for next year can still be gleamed from the matchup.

One important thing to watch this week will be how they use Spencer Rattler. The rookie quarterback has lost his first five starts in the NFL. While it hasn’t necessarily been the fairest chance to win, given the current outlook of the roster, his performance has still looked rocky. He has one more chance to go into the...

Saints already connected to another Chiefs LB in 2025 free agency

The New Orleans Saints sit at 5-11 and don’t have a great draft pick to show for it. Their best chance for improvement next year will be by making some moves in free agency.

Bleacher Report recently released a 2025 overview, which included a potential free agent for the Saints to consider this offseason. That player was linebacker Nick Bolton, of the Kansas City Chiefs. Here is what they had to say about Willie Gay Jr.’s former teammate:

Bolton would certainly be an interesting player to watch in the New Orleans defense, especially if Demario Davis is on his way out. But you have to...

Drew Brees recognized for one of the best seasons by an 'old guy'

Bleacher Report’s David Kenyon took a look at the best seasons in sports by an “old guy” since 2015. Kenyon defined an old guy as a player who is at least 38 years old, and Drew Brees represents the New Orleans Saints on the list.

The ageless wonder played four seasons over the age of 38 from 2017-2020, and led the league in completion percentage in three of those seasons. The 2018 season was the most special of the quartet, and it’s was an easy choice for Kenyon.

Both Brees and the Saints had their best performances that season. The season ended with the infamous No-Call, but it’s the...

These NFL writers aren't out on Spencer Rattler just yet, despite 0-6 record

Spencer Rattler has yet to win a game as a starter, but not everyone is pessimistic about him. Bleacher Report’s NFL staff believes Rattler “has the tools to be a high-end backup quarterback.”

That’s a step down from auditioning to be the New Orleans Saints’ quarterback of the future, but Rattler becoming a high-end backup would likely give him a chance to start again somewhere, eventually.

Bleacher Report took in account Rattler was performing without Chris Olave and Alvin Kamara. He was also down Rashid Shaheed and Erik McCoy. Darren Rizzi acknowledged the lack of assistance for the...
