NEW ORLEANS -- No question that after last year’s bountiful draft for the New Orleans Saints, the 2018 version of let’s take a chance would be scrutinized in a way that no other draft would be.

No matter who the Saints chose this year, the comparison to 2017 would be made, even though none of the players selected starting last Thursday had even taken a snap in the NFL.

So, how did the Saints do in this year’s installment? That all depends on who you ask. The range of grades looks like the report card of a seventh grader going through the change to adulthood: it is all over the map.
ESPN gave the Saints a C+, putting New Orleans just above average.

Bleacher Report, without providing any explanation with its rankings, gave the Saints a D, the lowest in the league along with Oakland and Seattle.
Yahoo and USA Today agreed with Bleacher Report and also rated the New Orleans draft as being D worthy. However, both NFL.com and CBS Sports had the Saints with a grade of B.

The biggest move of the draft for New Orleans came very early. The Saints made a bold move in the first round Thursday, trading next year’s first-rounder to move up and take Texas-San Antonio defensive end Marcus Davenport, a player who filled a need for a pressure player at the right defensive end spot the Saints have been trying to fill long-term for years.

Change is coming for the New Orleans Saints, but it may not be the earth-shaking moves at the top of the organization some fans are calling for after a six-game losing streak. The Saints shuffled the bottom of their depth chart by bringing several players onto the practice squad this week. They’re also welcoming a couple of other players back to practice after they spent time on the injury lists.

Here’s what you need to know about each roster move ahead of Week 9’s game with the Carolina Panthers:

The New Orleans Saints spent their day off reshuffling the practice squad. The team announced that they’ve brought back RB Jordan Mims and signed veteran DB Tre Herndon, waiving rookie C Sincere Haynesworth in the process.

Haynesworth, an UDFA center out of Tulane, has now been waived twice by New Orleans and three times total in his young NFL career.

He was signed by the Saints after the draft, but didn’t make the team’s initial 53-man roster and was cut in late August. About a month later, Haynesworth received a call from the New England Patriots to join their practice squad, but was...

SB Nation Reacts Survey: Should the Saints trade for a wide receiver?

On Sunday, we saw the New Orleans Saints lose their 6th straight game, this time to the Los Angeles Chargers. Unfortunately, as the losses pile up so are the injuries. Just as the Saints got Taysom Hill and Caser Ruiz back, they lost Kendre Miller, Marshon Lattimore and Bub Means to injuries. Means' high ankle sprain is not good news considering how thin the Saints already are at wide receiver. The good news is that we have not reached the trade deadline yet, so there is still some time to make some moves before next Tuesday. The bigger question is, should they? This team has a lot of...

For Week 9, the New Orleans Saints (2-6) are on the road again this week to face the Carolina Panthers (1-7) at Bank of America Stadium.

It all started back in 1995, during the Panthers inaugural season in the NFL as a part the NFC West. These two teams first played on another on October 22nd, 1995, when the Panthers defeated the Saints 20-3, in Charlotte. They were NFC West rivals from 1995 to 2001, until the two teams were moved to the newly formed NFC South in 2002.

This will be 59th time that these two franchises will face one another during the regular season, with the Saints...

The details are in on Alvin Kamara’s New Orleans Saints contract extension. The Saints saved salary cap space, and Kamara got security in a win-win deal that should please both sides. So how did it work out?

Per ESPN’s Katherine Terrell, the Saints did free up a little salary cap space for the rest of the 2024 season — totaling $2.5 million, which puts them under the cap by $4.2 million. That may not be enough to make a big move at next week’s NFL trade deadline but it will prevent cap compliance from being an issue through the rest of the year.

The real savings kick in next year...

Mickey Loomis' stance on coaching changes hasn't changed in 20 years

Mickey Loomis recently clarified to all New Orleans Saints fans that they have to look beyond the results when evaluating Dennis Allen. Well, let’s apply that same premise to Loomis himself.

Loomis said, “I think good organizations do is you look beyond the results. What’s the reason for the results, and how do you fix the reasons that keep you from winning? It’s not always about the head coach. Sometimes it is, but it’s not always about that.”

Hesitancy to look at the head coach is part of Loomis’ process. He did the same thing with Jim Haslett. ESPN’s Katherine Terrell dug up some old...

The New Orleans Saints have re-signed running back Jacob Kibodi to the practice squad, per a report from Saints News Network’s John Hendrix.

This comes shortly after Saints rusher Kendre Miller went down with a hamstring injury after he only played 10 snaps offensively on Sunday.

The undrafted rookie out of ULL was originally released from the practice squad at the beginning of October. He received a lot of love from the fan base and took advantage of the opportunity to play for a team that was all but completely in his own backyard.

“That was a dream come true. Coming from Louisiana...
